This weekend we went again - for my sister's surprise party. Her friend had been told the day before to call 1 hour in advance since we had 13 people. She called and arrived early just to be safe. We weren't seated until 6:15 (the party started at 6). When we were seated, there weren't enough chairs for everyone and they brought a high chair for a 2 month old baby! My brother, his wife, and 2 friends had to sit at the table behind us. I do not recommend this place. I would rather go to Plano for an early dinner by the mall (that OTB has great service). Veronica I always thought this On the Border was above average since I have been to some that were less than stellar. [This message has been edited by deborah (edited November 30, 2001).] I do teach my children manners, thank you very much. At almost 2 yrs and 3 1/2 years, both of my daughters say "Please", "Thank you" and "No thank you". I guess you have never been aggravated by bad service twice at the same place. Lucky you - maybe I just need a more positive outlook in life. P.S. My last name is Gotway. [This message has been edited by VGotway (edited December 03, 2001).] I also went with a large group to Mexi-Go's Sat eve & was very disapointed! The waiter was VERY rude & didn't want to do anything for our table. We all ran out of drink. We had to ask for our bill & when we were ready to pay with out check card the waiter ripped the bil & card from my hubby's hand. Talk about bad service. The food was pitiful too! While it is possible to allow deleting your own posts, if this was activated, the person that starts a particular topic could also delete the complete topic if they wish. Heres the problem. Keep in mind that when a member who starts a topic asks me to close it down I have honored this request. This gives me a chance to post a message informing everyone that if they want to continue this discussion someone else will need to start the topic over. The way you handled your duplicate post is they way to delete your comments. All members can still edit their messages. I know this could be a pain and it would be easier to simply be able to delete it. Hope this answers your question. Webmaster VeronicaVGotway We have gone to On The Border in Allen twice in the past few months. Both times the host/hostess were terrible! The first time we arrived at 6 and were told we would only have a 15 min wait (important because we had 2 toddlers with us). We waited an hour to be seated. By then our friends were so upset that they encouraged our kids to make a mess with the chips. juan Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. I go to the Allen On the Border often. I have never had a problem. I do not believe that On The Border takes reservations and is a first come first served resturant. A large party would most likely have to wait longer to be seated. As other guest have just as much right to be seated. Space is also a factor. I have gone to the Plano On The Border but stopped going after the Allen one opened, closer to home. In my opinion the Allen location is by far a better resturant in both service and food quality. jenniferd I have had nothing but great service and food when I have gone to On the Border. The wait staff has gone out of their way to make sure that we had everything we needed and to make sure that everything was the way we needed it. The host was even great. We had a party of 7 people when the place was busy and he initially told us it would be a while but then was able to seat us within 10 minutes. deborah Encouraged your children to make a mess because you had to wait
.....VGotaway....
That is surely something that children should not be taught. I am thinking more on the lines of manners. When going out to eat anywhere, especially on a Friday or Saturday night, expect to wait for a table unless you go very early or very late. I have had excellent service at this location and the food has always been great. No problems here.VGotway I didn't encourage them - our friends did. We went early the first time and were told a 15 min wait. They seated people (w/ larger or same size parties) who arrived after us before they seated us. mwhatley My 10 year-old has been begging me to take us to OTB ever since we moved here. It always looks so packed out that we don't go because of our toddler. AllenResident I love On The Border. I would say it is my favorite place in Allen to eat. I have always had excellent service. I just miss their happy hour specials.... : (
We have friends who love to eat at MexiGo whenever we go out with them. MexiGo is the place with rude wait staff and poor food quality. But you can ALWAYS get in there without a wait ........ hmmmmm wonder what that tells you...???Stacy F I agree with Allenresident. I went to On the Border Friday & got great service. The waitress was very friendly & we had a large table. She was very attentive. I was pleased being this was my first visit to this location. zeno I too very much enjoy OTB. Have been there many times and always with good service. I prefer it over Mexi-go. deborah VGotway, By no means was I saying that your children were not polite, It was more shame on your friends who were encouraging them to be anything but that. No circumstance calls for that. Back on the subject, Had an awesome dinner here tonight. There are some great new items on the menu. We had the salmon and it was very good. We eat here all the time and Love the food and service. AllenResident Just got back from OTB - once again - LOVED IT. Nixon83 COME ON, FOLKS! Let's try to be a little more creative. There are plenty of restaurants in Allen. Fine establishments that are owned and operated by your neighbors. On The Border is just another cookie-cutter restaurant by Brinker (Chilli's, Macaroni's, etc...). If you REALLY want to support this restaurant, then maybe you can also shop at Walmart while you're at it. Then, you will sit back and wonder why the town is dying and small businesses are having to close their doors. deborah Well I guess I will support it. I love the food and love the service. If you have not noticed, it is not just the mom and pop places that are closing here in Allen. We have all these new shopping centers and restaurants popping up and closing their doors to us way to soon. For example, Coulters, Lubys and soon possibly Kmart. I am for supporting all businesses that choose to open here in Allen. The mom and pops as well as the large companies. The tax dollars stay here. If I want to shop at Wal Mart, I will. However I usually go to the Target located here in Allen. Cookie cutter or not. This is where I live and this is usually where I choose to spend my money. So anyway, I eat at On The Border and sometimes I shop at Walmart. Thank God I live in America! mwhatley Since my post of December 3 my family went to this place. We were seated fairly quickly, but the service went south from there. It took forever to get drinks and our food never came. We walked out. juan Just got back from On The Border. Great food I tell you. Had the Mexican Pizza first then a pequena salad followed by there combo platter. My son had the new bacon cheesburger man are they huge. I guess its just my cheery personality that gets me good service. juan Posted same message twice, deleted one.
Webmaster why can't we delete our own posts?Webmaster Deleting posts.
A member starts a topic and asks a question. The topic becomes popular. Once the member gets an answer to their question they delete the topic. This cuts everyone off from further discussion. Many members sent me emails upset about this and asked how the topic could continue without it having to start all over again. Unfortunately, if I allow deleting of individual messages it also allows the topic starter to delete the complete topic.mwhatley Well, Juan, I'm feeling especially cheery so we'll try it again tonight. I advocate giving restaurants a second try since there is such a thing as a bad night. I'll let you know how it turns out. deborah Once again, excellent experience. We did try the new sandwiches. WOW!! theses were great. Huge!
I actually had one if their new salads and it was good too... Service was great as always. I just really love this restaurant. We even had someone ask us how their new items were. I am really happy this restaurant is here. Do not have to go to Plano any more.
Our waiter was excellent. mwhatley Ok, I promised Juan a review after giving OTB another chance. This time they came through with excellent service and the food was also terrific. My only complaint: I was sitting closer to a very nice woman (who was actually at an adjacent table) than I was to my wife (who was at my table). VGotway Third time is a charm. Tried it Saturday night with two tired children and everything was great, even though the young man serving us apologized for slow service saying they were swamped. It was actually pretty quick once we got seated.
