[This message has been edited by AvonMom (edited February 03, 2002).] A hamburger place is going into the space where Karen's Hallmark used to be. It has been conveyed to the management firm of Cottonwood Creek by council and other city officials the need to aggressively pursue leasing the vacancies in the center. As for Richardb says there will be a hamburger place where the old Karen's Hallmark used to be. Do Allen have enough hamburger places. Scott P..Sonic..Burger King..Wendys..etc... Why cant there be something different like greek foods or any other than hamburger place? What do ya'll this of this? AvonMom Well, another one bites the dust!! My husband and I went to grab a taco at Taco Rama today located by Blockbuster and the Freshman Center and there is a sign that says permanently closed...I hate to see local businesses go under for a variety of reasons...and while I know the people who owned Taco Rama have several other successful ventures in other parts of town it is still disheartening (is that a word?). I also fear (especially on the east side) the creation of several empty retail establishments looks discouraging to possible new businesses, keeping them from moving into our area...The whole Brookshire's retail strip looks horrible and I worry, as a homeowner, in the immediate area that it may, in the future, affect my property value if new business doesn't come to this area. richardb The owner of Taco Rama got caught between a rock and a hard place. One of his other locations where he was leasing the building was put up for sale by the landlord. He either had to buy it or move out. The added expense of purchasing the building was 6-8 times what his lease payment was. It forced his hand to close down the Allen location, although it was profitable. AvonMom Thanks Richard...I hope Cottonwood Creek got the message!! And I wish good luck to the owner of Taco Rama CupOfCapp Sure sad to see Taco Rama go. I sure like their foods and their salsa. I wish there is a way to have Taco Rama come back. RayW It seems Allen cant support the cookie cutter, see the same thing at every major highway intersection, franchises let alone restaurants that give us a little variety. I would love to have something like Fishmongers or anything other than the same old franchises in Allen but we live in the land of white bread, lite beer and Mcdonalds. Even home cooking is in danger of becoming a lost art. richardb CofC: Your point is well taken, but I don't include Sonic, BK or Wendys in the same league as ScottiP's. I think it will do well at that location, especially before and after football games on Friday nights. Nixon83 DEAR ALLEN RESIDENTS:
We HAVE TO SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES or we'll be left like a ghost town with nothing in it but a Dairy Queen and a Walmart. I've seen it happen too many times. The next time you're taking your family out to eat, think about where your money is going. Are you feeding your neighbors and keeping his doors open for business or are you oiling some huge restaurant conglomerate like Brinker International (Chili's, Macaroni's, On The Border) that will suck up your community's last dollar and force your neighbors out of business. PLEASE SUPPORT LOCAL COMMERCE and you won't see things like Taco-Rama close as often. (yes, I know the circumstances surrounding them closing...)bbaker Nixon83....What Dairy Queen and Walmart? deborah bbaker...he is probably referring to the Dairy Queen and Walmart that closed down several years ago. Seems like we ran them off also.. I believe Brookshires is now in the old Walmart building. Dairy Queen up on Main... Not sure what it is now. Has changed several times.
