c3lostSince I'm still in Ohio I didn't hear how the Eagles did. The Browns and Indians both lost. I saw the Razorbacks won the other day.
Did you say the Eagles just got a new coach? I hope it was good news!
richardbNew coach, new offense, new defense, new assistant coaches = loss.
The players had been playing the same scheme since 7th grade and apparently haven't adjusted to the new system yet. Also, we lost 12 starters from last years team who went on to college on scholarships, so that's a lot of talent to replace. Hopefully things will get ironed out before the opening district game in 2 weeks.
c3lostWow the coaching staff alone could do it but 12 starters! Well, let's hope they adjust! That is great that they all are scholarship players. All that from one school! I guess we will have to get em next week!
ASHMaybe 12 players did have scholarships, but a lot of them ended up at West Virginia with Todd Graham, the old coach. So, I suppose it helps to have had that connection.

But, yeah...they looked a little lost last week. Let's hope they do better in tonight's game against McKinney. Go Eagles!!

richardbI believe only 2 went with Coach Graham, which was his son and his nephew. The others went everywhere from the Air Force Academy to the University of Wyoming to Purdue University. Pretty impressive resumes.

New head coach Joe Martin has the creditials, having won a state title at Garland, so there may an understandable period of adjustment learning an entirely new system, plus there was a lot of talent that graduated last year. It'll come together.

richardbI waited to give someone else the chance to do so, but since it hasn't been done yet,
WAY TO GO EAGLES!!!

Big time come back, big time win, on the road no less. Should make practice this week a whole lot more fun and, did you notice, football weather is in the air!!! It's a shame no one told the Cowboys. Their offense is still on vacation.

c3lostThanks I was wondering how they did this week!
richardbAfter the opening loss, the EAGLES have won 3 in a row, including their first district win last Friday against Richardson!

This week's game, at home Friday night, the Eagles play Berkner. Kickoff is 7:30 and advance reserve tickets can be purchased at the Eagle Athletic Center. Show up, support the boys and watch the Eagles win their second district game!!! And if you haven't heard the Escadrille band this year, you don't know what you're missing at half time. They are great!

Stacy FRichard--Did you attend this game? My family did. Allen Eagles ROCK!! They are a fantastic team & look very good on the field. This is the first Eagles game that we attended. It was great! I wish it wouldn't have been such a blowout though.......It is more fun to watch when the teams are both good & the scores are much closer......just my opinion.
vrsStacy -

You should have been at the N. Mesquite game. All the excitement you could have wanted and then some. The lead changed hands (at least) twice in the last two minutes. Goal line stands, Hail Mary passes. At one point the EAGLE BAND was so loud that Mesquite couldn't hear their own quarterback's calls and ended up with a 5 yard penalty when they were 4th and inches inside our 10. Mesquite's coaches poured out on the field to try to get the officials to warn the band to be quieter. The officials said something like "deal with it." Moral of the story? Never leave an Eagle game early.

Having said all that, the schedule ahead should provide plenty of challenge. We have yet to face any of the Plano schools. I don't know if this was luck of the draw or strategy on Coach Martin's part to allow the team to gel before hitting the toughest opponents.

Either way, it should be great.

Stacy Fvrs:
That does sound more exciting! I know that Plano has some awesome football teams. They have since I was in H. School 10 yrs ago. I always enjoyed my H. School football games. Our team was always good as well, but Plano East was always better! I do think that Allen Eagles look fantastic though! I think they will give Plano a run for their money! Should be some AWESOME games ahead!!
richardbStacy-I was at the game Friday night. A little cold and windy to say the least. This Thursday the Eagles play West Plano in Plano. There needs to be a big turnout to support the team, so everyone go to the game.
richardbEAGLES WIN!!!
Trailing 28-14 at the half, Allen scored 3 second half touchdowns while shutting out Plano West and won 35-28!!!

Perfect weather for football and a great game. Something that needs to be mentioned again, as the visiting team, it looked like Allen had more support in the stands than the home team. It's not the first time that's happened this year and you have to know it means a lot for the team to look up in the stands and see they had more fans come to the game than the home team.
Allen is now 5-1 overall and 3-0 in district play.

Stacy FDidn't attend this game----but did listen to the last half on channel 17 lastnight. It was much more exciting than last weeks game that I DID attend. We have an excellent football team! We should all be proud of the coaches & the players. GO EAGLES!!!!!! I just wish the game could have been watched on channel 17 instead of listened to(lol).
bradkjLet me be the first to say "The Allen Eagle Band" totally dominated the halftime show. The football team fought a good game and came back to pull it out. Yet, our band was twice their size, twice as good and once again, the best show in town. Congrads to both, the band and the football team. I'm just glad that the band is on our side.
richardbUnfortunately I didn't arrive at the game until almost the end of half time and missed our band. My son had a hockey game in Duncanville at 6:30. After attending it, I drove straight to the stadium and got there just before the second half kickoff, so I got to see the best part of the game.
richardbUnless you've been under a rock, ALLEN 29-plano east-20!!! Undisputed first place in 9-5A!!! 11,500 attended the game!!! This Friday night vs. Lake Highlands there. Show up and support your EAGLES. Or you could spend 25 times as much and buy tickets to the Cowboy-Cardinal game instead...naw.
dclarkRB... I suspect if you want to see the better football, you would go to AHS game. I missed it (son had a baseball game that night) but I actually enjoy listening to the broadcast of it. I believe it is replayed on TV-17 tonight. I am going to go watch, I promise.
vrsAllen Eagles at Lake Highlands tonight.

South on 75 to LBJ.
West on LBJ to Skillman-Audelia.
Right at the light and then scoot immediately over for a left onto southbound Audelia.
Right on Church Street.
Visitor stands are the east side.

vrsSOAPBOX:
Okay, so last night was very disappointing. Don't get me wrong - I am not disappointed in our team. My pride and pleasure any time I see the young people in our district compete with heart and discipline in ANY endeavor - athletics, fine arts, debate, whatever - is undiminished by the outcome of the contest. I feel bad for their sake when they lose, but that's all.

The team had an off night, certainly, but they did not give up. One game doesn't make a season and these kiddos are still in a tie for the district lead, by the way. Coach Martin will use this opportunity to bring them back better than ever.

No, I am disappointed in the behavior of the fans (some of them parents) shouting disparaging remarks and occasional obscenities at the officials, coaches and yes, even the players. Does anyone really think shouting "Don't throw it away this time, idiot" will reach the ears of the player and he will have a sudden epiphany like "OMIGOSH! I'm NOT supposed to throw it away??? Why didn't the coaches ever tell me that? NOW I get it. I'll hang on to the ball now for sure."

Then these people left the game before it was over. The players certainly don't get to bail out when the situation looks bad. They have to gut it up and tough it out. Two weeks ago, I sat in a pouring rain at a college game. The stands emptied in the 3rd quarter when the home team was behind 30-17. Only a handful of us got to enjoy a 44-37 double overtime victory. NEVER leave a competition early.

I know this behavior (the bad language and bad temper in the stands) is endemic, but I always have higher hopes for Allen. That somehow, even in the heat of battle, we can maintain our perspective and support our children in a positive way.

Whew! Thanks for letting me get that off my chest! Last home game is next week.

Allenitevrs: As a parent, one of the hardest things to endure at a high school football game is to listen to the "fans" yell at your child in particular. These kids aren't on scholarship, nor do they get paid. "Fans" need to remember that when they are yelling & cussing at a kid on the field, the parent is close by. It's a wonder we haven't had actual fights break out in the stands. I happen to think that as the kid gets into college, the rules become a little different. The kids are usually on scholarship, the coach is usually paid a hefty salary, etc. Bad remarks from the crowd is more "acceptable". And, the pros are wide open for all kinds of comments from the crowd.
richardbA lot of credit should go to the Lake Highlands team. It was their homecoming and they were definitely fired up. LH has a history of being a proud team and their stadium has always been a tough place to play.

I never saw any "quit" in our team Friday night, just a hard fought game that didn't go our way. Our boys are still in a tie for first place and if we win our two remaining games, we still win district. We've got Plano at home this Friday and Rockwall away next week. I have plenty of confidence Coach Martin will have them prepared and they will respond. Friday night was just a wake up call.

vrsLady Eagles Volleyball in post season play
last night defeated Tyler Lee in 2 straight matches, 15-5 and 5-2.
