bellasonlineI have had it with petco in allen or any petco at that. They mistreat all their animals, esp the pet rats. Everytime I go to get food there is always sick pet rats in the cages and I have told them so many times about them and they don't do anything. Petco was nice when it first opened up, now their true colors came out like every other petco. Petsmart is so much better they take care of their animals and train their employees right. I have complained up the wazoo, but I never get a response. It's just sickening how pet stores treat some of the animals I don't know how anyone can go there and buy a animal.
bullseyeActually I have seen many occasions where the hampsters at Petsmart in Plano had wet tail. They cannot sell them with this illness. They soon die. So it is a problem everywhere, not just Petco.
NandoHave you notified the SPCA?
danaI've noticed the same problem at the Allen Petco. I won't go into detail, but the sight of the rat cage made me sick to my stomach. I can't imagine how someone's child would react if they saw it.
bellasonlineI have filed a report with the SPCA, but I don't know if they will investigate due to the lack of funds they have. I hope they will look into it. I know what you mean dana one day I went there and found a dead rat in a cage and it took a half hour to get someone to come over and alert them about it, whatever that rat died of all the other rats probably got it. I know people don't really think of rats as pets, but they are I have 5 of them right now, all animals that are at any petstore should have a great chance at living healthy. I mean they got 8 ferrets in one little cage they need more room than that. It's sad how they treat animals.
NandoYou should probably notify the City of Allen as well, I'm sure they would act upon this.
daydream_weaverOh man, you know there was a big do do over Petco killing rabbits.
http://www.ntrs.org/ has an article on it.

And you can visit www.rabbit.org to learn more about bunnies.

sunnyandcherbearI am also VERY upset with Petco in Allen. I have two Sun Conure Parrots and I go in there often the get them toys and of course have to visit the birds. When I went in there, one day the birds cages were so full of bird poop(piled up)it was awful. The water was dark dark green like the birds went to the bathroom in it. It was like that for over a week, I know because I went in there everyday just to see how long it would take for someone to clean the cages. And some of the birds didn't have toys. I almost got my birds from there, I am glad I didn't now that I know how they are really treated. I don't want to have a crazy bird. They need to be played with or they WILL go crazy, they obviously don't take the time for ANY of there animals. It is so SAD.
bellasonlineI know what you mean sunnyandcherbear, there has to be something that we can do. I am going to look into it and report back to you. No animal should have to go through that.

bellasonlineOk if you see anything at petco report it to the allen animal shelter at 972-727-0230. They do spot checks on petco and just did one yesterday you can remain anonymous when you call.
flygirlI have been to Petco and found the staff knowledgeable and friendly. I have enjoyed shopping there and am glad to have the store in Allen. I have seen the employees cleaning the cages and playing with the animals on a regular basis. I think at any given moment someone could walk into anyone's home and potentially see dirty clothes on the floor, a floor needing to be swept, or dishes needing to be cleaned in the sink. That doesn't mean there is neglect or abuse going on in that home. You should check with the SPCA for the Allen Petco's track record. Are there any complaints that have warranted fines? How about the City? Do they have a record of finding anything abusive and neglectful happening?
ramyI agree flygirl! I also shop at the Allen Petco and have had nothing but great customer service. I have dogs, cats, and birds,so you can imagine how frequently I shop there. I have also seen employees cleaning cages and taking care of the animals.I take my children in there with me and they always run to see the little furry animals and I have NEVER seen anything disgusting. In fact I was in there today and over heard the manager there giving, yes giving a customer a cage because her Guinea pig had babies and she did not have an extra cage to separate them once they were not nursing. The store is clean and the employees are friendly and I will continue to shop there.
bellasonlineHi Ramy & Flygirl,

I went to petco last week and was very surprised I guess all my complaining worked I contacted petco at their corporate office & Spca & allen animal control. Looks like they have everything under control for once. They have less rats in their cages and reduced the ferretts also so I am very happy about that. That store wasn't properly training their employees and they finally got it all straightened out.
