MrsCI notice in the last 5 days that my Sprint PCS service drops out as soon as I enter Allen, but picks up again once I leave Allen. I don't have any problems outside of Allen.

I live close to McDermott and Allen Heights. I'm on the verge of cancelling my service because I cannot get Sprint coverage anymore. I lock my phone in Sprint PCS mode.

I've not had any problems before...just started last Sunday.

Web-IdiotDid you try a service call to Sprint? Maybe there is some technical problem... a tower that is down due to weather or some such. Sprint should be able to tell you of any such problems, i would think.
newintownI switched to Verizon Wireless a year ago, and have been so happy. They show you a coverage map of their areas of coverage compared to the others (At&T;, Sprint, etc) and their coverage areas far outway the others. Important for me, because I travel alot, and wanted to be sure I wouldn't have the signal drop everytime I try to make a call on the road. That is frustrating to me!
shirazYou should contact customer service and see if they can help pinpoint the problem. Maybe it's a problem with the software in your phone?

We have Sprint PCS and live on the west side. Recently I've noticed that the signal drops out (causing my telephone to make a little warning beep) when I'm inside the Tom Thumb, but I have very few problems other than that. We use our Sprint PCS phones to make long-distance calls from inside the house all the time and get very few dropped calls.

MrsCThanks for your help!

I went by a Sprint store this afternoon. I was told it was a software issue but the phone cannot be updated so my only choice is to buy a new phone. So why couldn't they just tell me this when I called customer service twice last week?! Instead I had to wait in line for over 30 minutes for them to say I need a new phone. They offered me $50 towards a new phone.

I even emailed Sprint numerous times. One email told me to stand closer to the window?!

MichaelCan you hear me now? (sorry I couldn't resist)

Most of the people I know that have Sprint PCS say it's hard to get a signal in a lot of places. I tease them that their commercials that say the signal is always clear. They say "yea, when you can get a signal" They mostly have trouble when they are in buildings, but also in some places driving down the highway.

MrsC, you would think they would give you a free upgrade on your phone! IT WAS NOT YOUR PROBLEM, IT IS THEIR PROBLEM.

I am probably a little biased, I have been with Cingular for a real long time and have not had any problems. I get a new phone every two years for free or if I want a phone with a few more bells and whistles (like Ring Tones) they charge a nominal price. The last phone I upgraded to was a Nokia 3360. It cost $40.00 to upgrade. But I could have gotten the Nokia 5160 (I think that was the model number) for free.

txbeeguyI've had the same problem (at exactly the same time). I've been with Sprint PCS for 3.5 years and guess I will now change service providers.
txbeeguyI went to the Sprint PCS store on Preston Road and they said they had several people from Allen area saying their phones had stopped working. I suspect what happened during the ice storm, was that some piece of their equipment was knocked out and they replaced it with a later, "updated" version which suddenly caused older phones to stop working (probably softeware related). Anyway, they gave me a new phone at no charge - smaller, lighter and with voice dialing ($100 value); plus 50 minutes a month free long distance for my home phone for as long as I am a Sprint PCS customer.
They activated the new phone and no change to my existing cell phone number - I left the store with a brand new phone and didn't spent a penny more.
MrsCWell I guess I'm not crazy afterall...like the sprint people implied (talk about bad customer service). Anyway to keep a long story short I am no longer with Sprint. I guess they didn't value my 4 years of no contract loyalty to give me a free phone or even make my plan competitive to other providers. I guess maybe I was one of the first people to go to the Preston/Park store so they didn't feel the need to help me out. If they keep that up pretty soon they will be in the same straits as MCI.

Oh well good bye to Sprint and my trusty Nokia 6185 and Hello to T Mobile and my new free $250-300 phone (The T720i and S105 look really nice - need to decide soon).

txbeeguyThe Nokia 6185 was EXACTLY the same model I had (the one that stopped working). If you're so inclined, you might want to speak with Michelle at the Sprint store on Preston Road; she's the one who set me up. She's also the person who told me "several people" from Allen had this problem. Perhaps it was because you where one of the first people to complain and they didn't recgonize they had a problem until they got multiple complaints. They might "handle" you differently now...
txbeeguyopps...
were (not where - fingers not as fast as my mind!)
