[This message has been edited by 2054usaf (edited May 04, 2003).]2054usaf I noticed the post under DOG HOUSES NEEDED DESPERATELY by JamnMom the volunteer with Boxer rescue. I am the President of a Labrador Retriever rescue group here in North Texas and the need for help is very critical with all rescue groups. The cute little puppies that were given as Christmas gifts are now about 6 months old and no longer as cute as they use to be. People are calling the rescue groups every day begging us to take their dogs. In the last 15 minutes I have received a call from an owner wanting to give up his 9 week old pure bred lab because it is now too energetic and active. I also received two calls from people who have found pure bred labradors and who are asking us to take them in before they have to be turned over to the animal shelter. Who knows if these two dogs were cute little Christmas gifts that have been dumped. This is just part of a typical day for a rescue group. I would urge anyone who is interested in helping the rescue groups in their efforts to consider becoming a volunteer foster family. Most rescue groups are limited in their efforts only by the number of foster families that are willing to bring one of the rescued dogs into their homes while we try to find them "forever homes". No matter what particular breed you are interested in there is a constant need for help. Please consider this an urgent plea for help not only for my group, but for the other rescue groups that are out there trying to solve this never ending problem.

MassenaFlr Having fostered many animals over the years, I would like to say that you will never regret the time put into taking care of a foster pet. A lot of people say they can't do it because they become to attached but once you experience seeing a dog or cat get a good forever home, you will be hooked. You get the chance to protect and provide for an animal until some wonderful family comes along that really appreciates and wants the foster dog or cat you have. PLEASE open your hearts and homes to a wonderful experience. 2054usaf My group had an adoption information booth at the Allen PETCO yesterday, May 3rd. I understand we did have several people pick up foster family information. This is great, but we can still use more. If you think you might be interested in becoming a foster family, even if it is just on a temporary basis please contact us. We are being overwhelmed with calls from animal shelters and owners wanting to surrender their pets. Without available foster homes we have to turn these people away and many of the dogs will eventually be subjected to euthanasia. Bandit's Gang We are the new owners of a five month old black lab. She is curious, beautiful and very smart. We already had three dogs (one a lab)eight horses, a guinea pig, and a rabbit when we heard she was looking for a home. We are her THIRD (and final) family since the breeders. Her owners said she had "destroyed" their backyard. My thoughts were,if it is already gone, why give up on her? Just replant it when she "grows up". And secondly, you can not expect a puppy this intelligent to sit in a backyard alone and do nothing. She made her own fun because they wouldn't include her in theirs. She was free to us, but you could not buy her from us after less than a week. We LOVE her, and she LOVES us. She learned her new name in less than 48 hours. Learned how to stay away from the horses, knows all of her people, and runs circles around me everywhere I go on our 15 acres. We had a horse die on Sunday, and she has been a blessing to us in her place. If we have any more deaths in the "family" we would love to help out. Until then, I can not say enough about the compensation they give in return for a lot of love and attention. 2054usaf Labrador Retriever Rescue of North Texas will have another pet adoption information booth at the Allen PETCO this Saturday, May 11th. We will be there from noon until 3:00 P.M.
