1peggyThere's been a lot of talk about how bad it would be for Allen to have a liquor store.
I'm wondering how people feel about having the new "palm reader" and their lovely sign right on McDermott. Seems like a liquor store would be a step or two up from that.
Tattoo parlors can't be far off.
campbellfamI do have to give her credit for her marketing insight; a palm reader next to a cemetary, you know what the experts say, "location, location, location"!
AvonMomPeggy,

You could be right!! But, I must admit I have been thinking about getting some girlfriends together for a Mom's Night Out at the Palm Readers!! LOL

richardbIt's very disappointing that the Planning & Zoning Department and the Planning & Zoning Commission have denied many viable businesses an approval to place a business in Allen, but a Palm Reader, which is one step below a Tatoo Parlor, is allowed on McDermott/aka Main Street. A birthing center recently purchased the victorian style yellow home on Main Street, but upon applying for a Certificate of Occupancy, was informed by the city that they would have to pay a $63,000 assessment fee before they could open for business. Yet, a psycic fortune teller gets the OK. Go figure.
VGotwayThat's pretty sad. Isn't that cemetary a historical marker too? This is just my opinion, but that doesn't seem very respectful to me to have that place next to what should be considered a sacred ground -- people's loved ones are buried there.
denisewYeah, I saw that article in the newspaper about the birthing center. It really is too bad the city is doing that. It would have been real nice for the business owner to know those details before she bought the house. I sure think this type of business would be more worthwhile than a palm reader.
AvonMomI hate to hear that the birthing center was deinied a occupancy certificate. What a wonderful business to have had in our area (not that I will need one anymore). Do you know why the assessment was being required, for what kind of informational purposes?
tejasdaveMaybe the Birthing Center folks should have used the Palm Reader to find out that they were not going to get their certificate!
deborahI am not really sure how I feel about the palm reader. Depends on if they sell beer wine and liquor. Buy beer and have your palm read... now there is a big marketing idea.
purrfect gentlemanDon't like the palm reader? Run her out of business. I'll read your palm for 50% less.

Oh, how scary can a 'palm-reader' be??
Probably not as scary as someone being shot in front of an elementary school in daylight?? Wouldn't you agree??
I am sure to some it would be tacky to have the 'reader' by a cemetary, but have you considered, what if this person gives even one person a little reassurance about a loved one?
Who are any of us to tell someone that has lost a loved one that needs closure that they can not have the option?
Just one person's opinion,
NandoHmmmmmm, new poster and defending the palm reader. Just one of those things that makes you go hmmmmmmm.
my_opineWouldn't you think the insurance agency would object to the "new competition" next door??
GaryThe Palm Reader business opened in an area already zoned for business and was not subject to review by any commission or council.
BobTWhat really motivates you to dislike a business such as a Palm Reader? Are you upset because you or a friend has a business that is in need of a location such as this and that you didn't get to utilize this empty facility? Are you bitter because you had a palm reading at one time and it didn't come true? Or maybe it did come true. Do you know the owner of this business and harbor a grudge?

I consider Palm Reading to be an entertainment business. Other possible entertainment businesses that I can think of are a Comedy Club, TV/Satellite equipment sales/service, gentlemens club, video rental store, etc.

I consider Palm Reading the same as a Comedy Club except they have smaller audiences. Since there really isn't enough parking there for large audiences, this actually rules out a Comedy Club. I would also consider a gentlemens club or an adult video store less desirable than a Palm Reader. But I would even tolerate one of those type businesses rather than see a business location empty.

We have far too many empty business facilities in Allen at the present time. If the people that opened the Palm Reading business can make it succeed and provide proper upkeep for the property then this is better for the citizens of Allen than an empty location that falls into disrepair.

On the other hand I could be wrong and this could be a front for recruiting our kids to be carnys or gypsies.

ntheknowI would think that the palm reader would have wanted a different location. Just think...how will they ever get any real palm reading done with all of the neighbors getting lonely and just wanting to "chat" with the them! Imagine all of the interuptions!
tejasdaveYou know...I really had not thought of it...but now that you mention it, wouldn't a nice upscale gentleman's club go real well in the old Winn Dixie spot?

I don't know about you, but I get tired of driving all the way to Dallas for that form of 'entertainment'....

Hey, I am a gentleman...I need a club!!!

purrfect gentlemanDang! When will I learn to implement a good idea before someone else comes up with it? Tejasdave is on track regarding a gentlemen's club in the old WD--except I don't want it on my side of town. How 'bout a Million Dollar Saloon in the K-Mart building? That'll keep the rifraff on the west side where they belong.
VGotwayPlease tell me you are kidding! I can see the Million Dollar Saloon from my office building. Pass it often -- parking lot full of Mercedes, BMWs and Jags.
purrfect gentlemanVGotway, it's all the professional athletes---or maybe the staff, but yeah, i'm kidding. Maybe.
AllengramCould you guys ask the Palm Reader when the housing market is going to turn around in Allen LOL..... I would but I am very far away in CA....
Miss Ya'll
zenoI wonder if I email a picture of my palm to the palm reader will I still get charged full price??
civicmindedHiya there Allengram, we miss ya, but keep posting anyway. How are palm readers thought of there?
