andro1Hi all,
I need to buy a 94" bookcase, one which has doors on the bottom part but is open on the top. Any good places to buy a tall bookcase in the metroplex?

Thanks
Andy

scoI have had the best luck finding bookcases at one of the unfinished furniture stores. Furniture in the Raw in Garland has by far the best selection and they will finish them for you if you like. Neals Unfinished Furniture in Plano is also good.
rock761We just bought 2 at Staples, although not quite as big and they didn't have doors, but maybe worth checking out. Also, Office Deopt. Lowe's also had some back in the corner in their "furniture" dept.
WestMy wife has been eyeing on that matches our funiture at The Home Store in Plano, which used to be called The Oak Mill. It's at 75 and Parker.
denisewI second the quality and selection at the Furniture in the Raw store in Garland. I was there looking for a dining room table and they had SO MANY to choose from. The quality of materials and workmanship was very good too. Their prices were reasonable and like all unfinished furniture stores, they will do the finishing for you or you can do it yourself - not a difficult thing to do.

My husband and I built a bookcase a few years ago for my son's room. It was as tall as the doorway and was all open shelving. It was a fun project and not as difficult as one might think. We didn't have any plans - only measurements and ideas that we put on paper - then we made it happen. If you do build something yourself or buy unfinished furniture to finish yourself, don't omit the sandings between coats of polyurethane. It makes for a real smooth finish - especially when the last sanding is with a fine steel wool, tack clothed then the final coat.
