Stacy FWhy is it that E. Bethany's medians are so bare? Some of the medians have no lanscaping at all. They are full of overgrown weeds. Is there plan for widing of this street perhaps? Why is that the medians w/no landscaping only get mowed at the edges & not the middle? Some of these weeds are 3 feet tall or more. What do my HIGH city taxes pay for?
richardbWild flowers were planted through the Keep Allen Beautiful Board and that's probably the reason the center isn't being mowed. As soon as they bloom and die out, mowing will resume. Permanent landscaping with trees is planned for E. Bethany, but I'm not sure what the schedule is.
Stacy FOh........I appologize. I assumed the high grass was weed. I didn't realize that it was wildflowers. I haven't seen any flowers. Thanks for updating me Rich. I hope that trees/bushes will be planted along Bethany soon. The medians are so bare & plain. Will Bethany get widened eventually in the future?
richardbExactly which section of Bethany are you referring to?
Stacy FThe medians are very wide from Jupiter Rd. down to Malone. Will this area be widened in the future perhaps?
richardbI believe there are plans to eventually widen Bethany as more homes are built east of Malone and the traffic warrants, but I'm not sure what the timetable is.
jenniferdFirst I will introduce myself, my name is Jennifer and my husband and I recently moved to Allen (July 7, 2001).

I live just East of Malone and was also disappointed by the weeds, however, I have noticed that it has now been mowed. Regarding Bethany road - a gentleman that lives across the street from my husband and I stated that they are planning on fixing that portion of Bethany Road. But as Richardb stated, I also am unaware of when this will take place.

This gentleman also stated that the land that is located across from Maxwell Creek, (just west of the Kimball Hill Homes development area) has been designated for town homes. Does anyone know anything regarding this and if so, is there anything that can be done to prevent this action?

Thanks!
Jenn

richardbJenn, welcome to Allen! There hasn't been anything presented to the council about townhomes being built on that property, unless it was before I was elected in May 2000. Many times, land is zoned many years before it is actually developed, with the developer waiting to see what is built around it. Then, by the time the developer gets his funding together and the area has developed, they ask for a zoning request change to single family residential. I can assure you that any town homes built in your area would have to meet stringent requirements as to not upset the "continuity" of the surrounding neighborhoods and would compliment the area.

As I mentioned earlier, the weeds grew more quickly and taller than the wildflowers in the medians and next year a different and more appeasing approach to planting wild flowers will be taken.

bbakerI'm glad to hear that Richardb. I too noticed that the weeds were choking out the wildflowers. I wonder if they could kill the weeds without harming the wildflowers? Welcome to Allen Jenn.
Stacy FI never even saw any wildflowers. All I saw was tall grass. I did notice the blue signs that stated the areas where wildflowers were planted. I hope next yr is much better, w/many more seeds planted!
richardbIt was an experiment that didn't exactly turn out as planned, but the thought was there. If you got out of your car and crawled into the tall grass you could actually see a wild flower or two. HA
Barry_HubrisThey probably planted the wildflowers too late in the Spring. Richardson plants every year at the same time and the flowers are beautiful. They need to call someone in Richardson and ask when they plant.
Stacy FThe wildflowers in Richardson are pretty, but in the past yrs they let them get to tall & wide, so that when you were in a turn lane, oncoming traffic couldn't be seen. That is going over board. We need a happy medium! I also suggest that the wildflowers be mown by mid June. By this time they are dying out & looking bad anyways.
rock761Also, remember that wildflowers can take up to two years to germinate and bloom depending on what the city planted. It also depends on the quality of the seed. I'm interested to know what the plan will be for this year!?
