Perhaps someone on the Allen School Talk forum can help you but don't expect anyone from the school board to answer you there. I believe (and I could be wrong) Richard is the only elected official (city council or school board) that participates on Allen Talk. I for one would like to see them join in. I know they can provide useful, helpful and important information. Our daughter goes to Anderson also. We had a big surprise at meet the teacher night when we found out that the buses do not run in our neighborhood anymore and we were directed to the director of transportation of AISD. His e-mail address can be found on the AISD website. His name is Larry Donaldson and his number is 972-727-0542. Hope this helps and welcome to Allen and Anderson, it is a great school. Last year (maybe the year before) one of the drivers lost control of his mouth when one of the younger riders vomitted in the bus. The driver completely ignored his route and went somewhere (I don't recall where) to clean-up the mess. He didn't call anyone and was 40 minutes late delivering the kids home. Actually, my issue is the transporation department changing the bus stop to an unsafe corner and not caring enough to discuss my concerns. I feel better (probably as most parents) when I can see my children get on the bus safely. They were picked on up our corner all last year. It's not that it's that far for them to walk, but one of the bus stops in the neighborhood is on the corner where houses are under construction. I don't think that elementary school kids should have to be around those strangers, to say nothing of all the "interesting and cool" (in the kids' opinions) stuff that they leave laying around. It's bad enough that the middle school kids in my neighborhood (all girls) have to walk by the construction to get to their bus stop. They've been whistled at and hollered at by the workers. These are little girls! Anyway, I'm trying to go through the proper channels to have my issues aired. I know I could just drive my kids to school, but with the property taxes we pay, I shouldn't have to, just to make sure they get to school safely. That's just my opinion...LisaMay Richard, I thought you could help me out, since you're on the Town Council. Are schools required by law to provide transportation to and from school, or is it a privilege? I have a situation with my bus driver, and I want to get all of my facts straight before I cause a HUGE stink. Thanks for your help. richardb LisaMay:
Questions concerning the school district are a matter for the School Board. Wish I could help, but the city council and school board are separate entities with separate budgets and separate issues. Wish I could help, but I'm not in a position to comment.
Good luck.MarkH LisaMay: LisaMay Thanks for your reply. I'll try the school board. StacyG Lisa, LisaMay StacyG, thanks for your reply. I called Mr. Donaldson; he told me that school transportation was "a privilege" not a requirement. I sent an email to "[email protected]" and got the same suggestion. So, I'm trying to find out who else I need to talk to in order to resolve the issue. BTW, we love Anderson too! StacyG Is the issue that you don't have bus service anymore? Because if that is it, I have some info on that. Gary If your kids ride the bus, take time to ask them about what goes on during the bus ride to/from school. LisaMay Thanks, Gary. That makes me feel much better! (smile!)
