NandoWhen did this gas station go out of business? It's starting to look bad, just curious if anything is in plan to replace it.
starrlacBoth of the Finas in Allen closed along with several in Plano. I don't know why, though.

GaryI heard that the franchise owner is in bankruptcy. The company owns about 14 stations and is working to get them reopened. Yes, it is starting to look bad.
AvonMomI wish they would take the gas prices down too...every time someone comes to visit me during the day they mention how expensive the gas is there because it is hard to tell it is out of business during the day.
patrattYeah, that cracks me up...although the abandoned station looks really bad there on the corner for all to see. It's almost like it is frozen in time with the $1.75/gallon prices posted. It still freaks us out to see that price when we go by.
bullseyeThat Fina station doesn't look as bad as the abondoned gas station on the corner of McDermott & Allen Heights. This is a major eyesore & hang-out after school for teens. What are they going to do about this station? Instead new stations are being built around the area. Why don't they just remodel the abandoned ones?
patrattGood point Bull. That station is an eyesore. What happens to a place like that? Does it get torn down? I didn't know kids hung out there. I see all the kids at TigerMart across the street late at night. Where are these kid's parents?
bullseyeThe kids that hang out at this gas station are ages 14-18. Some have cars that are souped up & some just go there to skateboard & whatnot. The other day all the trash cans were sprawled all over the parking lot. I am surprised there is not grafitti on the building yet. These kids also hang out at that "Young Donut shop" on that same corner & ride the slopes w/their skateboards. I & many others have almost hit a few a couple of times when entering that shopping center. They don't watch for cars, they come out right in front of you on those boards & then laugh about it. A MAJOR hazzard! One is going to get seriously injured 1 day.
patrattDidn't I read on here somewhere that there is a proposed skate park here in Allen? That would be cool for those kids.

Fortunately, I don't think Allen kids are into Graffiti. I haven't seen any around town...which is really nice.

bullseyePatratt---did you not see it on the building at Bethany Lakes park? There was also some on thr brick wall straight across from Bethany Lakes Blvd. You can still see the remnants of it. There is a blue sign on Bethany (N side of street)between Allen Heights & Jupiter Rd. that states grafitti artists will be prosecuted if caught. That sign was grafittied w/vulgar language during this summer. They had to put up a new sign. There is a problem----it just isn't as bad as some cities.
time2growUPyou adults crack me up sometime when you talk about teenagers. i am a teen myself. the kids at the abandoned gas station are at the most 16 or 17, and as young as 10. they skateboard around there and yes, it is a nuisance, but no they are not the ones responsible for the "alledged" graffiti. and i also agree that the people hanging out at the tigermart is a nuisance. personally, me and my friends are a bit intimidated to go up there. yet, most of them are over 18, they meet there before they go to parties or the street races. not meaning to step on anyone's tows, just trying to get the facts straight
bullseyetime2growup: What about the broken window above the door of this abandoned station on McDermott? I have noticed lately that there are alot of groups hanging out at the Exxon. I just wonder why teens pick gas stations to hang out at? I was referring more previously as to why these empty gas stations haven't been re-opened instead of new stations being built. That was my main concern, not about "teen hangouts". That was just added.
richardbI don't have the answers to all the questions posed in this particular forum, but this is the information I've received in my personal efforts to address the Fina(s) and Citgo at Allen Heights and Main.

The Fina(s) are currently in bankruptcy. I travel to the mid-cities weekly on business and have noticed the corporate owned Finas in the Hurst-Euless-Bedford area are also closed and all inbetween. Only the independents that carry the Fina brand are still receiving product. I have received correspondence from Fina addressing their situation and efforts to resolve it.

The Citgo at Allen Heights and Main is owned by an individual. I have spoken to other independent retailers about purchasing this building and re-opening it. First, they all concur, the building is too small to carry sufficient inventory to make a business of that type prosperous and two, the owner is asking way above market value for the property, somewhere in the range of 200%. They have turned down reasonable offers.

Next, and at this point, a serious concern is maintainence on the above mentioned properties. Last week, members of council expressed concerns to city staff about the condition of the buildings and the heigth of the grass. Friday, the owners were notified to have the property, particularly at McDermott and 75 mowed. If anyone noticed, this was done, but in a most unacceptable manner and the matter will soon be turned over to code enforcement.

The legalities and ins and outs of the Fina properties are up in the air. The Citgo presents an entirely different senario which has to be addressed and what the resolution is, at this time, unclear. City staff are addressing these properties and proceeding with the proper protocal.

bullseyeThat is good to hear Rich. I hate to see a property stand empty & abandoned for a long period of time. Why don't they just tear down the Citgo station if it is too small to do anything with? The owners sound un-reasonable to me!
time2growUPbullseye,
i understand your concern as to why teens hang out at gas stations. the answer is simple. where else are they going to hang out? the rec center? yea, right....what a joke, A) you have to pay and B) teens just wanna hang and talk, not necessarily play around
the city of allen really needs to look into getting a pool hall, arcade, or minature golf course to assist in solving this "hang-out" problem
