I have some virus or program that keeps changing the date and time on my computer. Sometimes the year comes up as 2001 and sometimes 2010 or anywhere in between. The time keeps changing also. Very random. Some times, I can go four or five days without it changing. Other times, it changes everyday.
I have Windows XP Pro.
Any ideas?

Very odd. Your BIOS keeps time...and the only way it can mess up is when the battery in the motherboard goes bad. I bet this might be the issue with Windows keeping the right time.
I would recommend getting the battery tested, or just replcaing it. It also wouldn't hurt to run virus protection software (i.e., Search&Destroy, HijackThis, Microsoft Anti-Spyware, etc.).
Good luck

What I would suggest before going into any heavy duty purchasing is double-clicking on the clock and opening the Date & Time Window. Go to Internet Time and uncheck for the date and time to by synchronized with Microsofts Web Servers. Something could possibly be wrong with a server you connect to. If that doesn't fix the problem go with DallasAggies idea.
Good Luck!

I don't think it is the BIOS battery because the date will still change even if I leave the computer turned on. Also, I don't seem to lose any other BIOS settings just date and time.
I have run every virus and spyware program I have available (McAFee, Norton, Ewido, AVG, AdAware, Spybot, SBC Spyware program, etc.) They ndid not find anything (but tracking cookies). I just purchased Zone Alarm Intersuite but have not installed it yet.

I turned off the auto-update two or three weeks ago. It did not help. What's also strange is when I click on the Update clock now, it says an error occurred.
This Windows XP installation is so old, that soon I think I will just install a new hard drive with a fresh copy of Windows XP. But that is a huge pain getting all the programs back and running.
Thanks for all the suggestions and if you have more, toss them my way.

Googling on your question gives this link which gives you a way to check out battery vs virus:
http://www.short-media.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-12137.html
on another thread, I found this:
Quote:
My clock on my windows xp pro keeps changing Every few minutes. The Date will usually change to 1990, but will occasionally change to 2070. I used norton to check for viruses and didn't find any. I can't think of anything else to check, any ideas?
(most thread replies suggested power of some sort - battery, capacitor, etc. Eventually the original poster came back with the solution that worked for him...)
Yes, I fixed it over the weekend. I went into the registry and removed microsofts default update server. Somehow there was an issue when windows was updating the time. Once I removed it, it stopped messing up the time.
I just love Windoze....
