SafeDisc?
      #25529 - 03/27/06 12:01 PM

Ok, I'm not computer literate at all so I thought I'd ask you guys for some advise. I bought hubby Microsoft Flight Simulator for an older computer (3-4 yrs) that I got from our office (so it has some admin stuff/rules on it)that is running Windows 2000. The simulator loaded fine and works well. I also bought an upgrade for scenery and it will not load. The booklet says that they use SafeDisc. Any suggestions on how to get this CD to install? Thanks!

Well after reviewing your post I would suggest a fresh install of Windows 2000. The Admin restrictions most offices put forth will highly obstruct your daily computing life if you wish to download and install files. If you dont have some discs that the company gave you with the computer I suggest going to ebay and buying Windows 2000 or possibly XP. If you could post the computers specifications I could tell you if XP would be okay to install. If you don't want to do a fresh install of the operating system I would suggest seeing if you can clear all Admin accounts on the computer however If you do wish to install Windows 2000 or XP I will post a step-by-step guide for you if needed. If you need to contact me feel free to email at [email protected]

Regards,
Kyle

Safedisc is just the copy protection on the disc, that 'shouldn't' cause it to not load up. Which scenery disc is it and by whom? There may be a patch needed for the install to work, also it might be dependant on which service pack is running on the Win2K machine.

Maurice what a great comment. I had totaly forgotten about service packs. I have 2K on my laptop and I had to go through the service pack issue.

SP's are an easy item to forget, then you do that slap the forehead when you find out that's what ya overlooked. I know, I've done that before! :)

I'm trying to load FScene Vol 2 by Just Flight (expansion for Flight Simulator). The W2K version is 5.00.2195 SP4. But I think I may have solved my problem as the case in real small print says for DVD drives only. This older computer has just a CD drive. Guess it's time to upgrade!

A-Ha! Yea, that may be the cause of your issues. :) No worries though, DVD drives are relatively cheap and I believe tonight is the midnight madness sale at CompUSA if you're interested in trying to look for a cheap DVD drive. If not there then definitely give Fry's a look, they have good deals.
