Right Click
      #26257 - 04/18/06 12:27 PM

Is there anyway to speed up my right click? When I try right clicking on my desktop (pentuim 4) to make a new folder, it takes forever. I have a 8 y/o laptop that is slow as heck, but the right clicks are lightning fast.
I've cleaned my cache and cookies, defragged, ran virus checker, run adaware daily. Any help please?

Wow DallasAggie, way over my head!! I really appreciate the links and info. Great stuff... But me messing with registry, context menu handles, shell extension handles or the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\yada\yada\yadas would not be a pretty sight. From what I read, it sounds like there could be a third party handler that was added to the default XP handler. (Graphics card is suspect) I'm checking the website of my graphics card to see if there is any info posted. Thanks so much.

Yeah..sorry, some of these solutions can be pretty scarry. Especially when it involves messing around with the registry...though, you can make a backup very easily. One of the other solution was to delete your profile (folder I think)...I have never tried that, but it may work...again, seems a little risky. You would want to make sure all your personal files are backed up on some external source (e.g. DVD, CD, Removable Hard Drive, etc.).

I hope you are able to fix it. I had the same problem a while back...instead of trying to do a fix, I re-imaged my entire machine---which I do once a year anyway. :)

Is it just as slow from the explore window? (right click over the start buttin and choose explore)

You can make new folders there and it may be faster. Not a fix. A possible workaround.

I found all the same sites Dallas Aggie did and it certainly looks like that is the problem. I also agree it is pretty intimidating stuff..... Good luck!!
