I'm amazed there have been no Lost posts on this forum! It's my favorite, mainly because of the challenging writing. If you've tried to pick it up late this season, and found yourself "lost", they've tried to help with some catch-up episodes.
Best of all, if you are looking for some good summer viewing, Blockbuster has Season 1 on DVD, 3-4 episodes per disc, that will launch you into a great adventure. I started half-way thru last season, and it's been fun to get up to speed and re-view some episodes.
Get Lost!

What is it about? I don't follow TV shows generally, but might take a look at something that teaches skills??

It's basically an "un-reality" show. Hard to synopsize it, but here goes:
A plane traveling from Australia to LA, Oceanic Flight 815, crashes on a tropical island. Two separate groups from the crash survive on opposite sides, but we don't discover the second exists until season 2. Many mysterious things happen on the island, some almost mystical, most very coincidental to certain survivors.
Another group also inhabits the island, called "The Others" by the plane's survivors, kidnaps chosen "good" members, leaving others alone. They seem to have inhabited the island for many years, though it appears they may not be what they seem.
At the end of Season 1, the survivors discover a hatch which leads to an underground bunker. Season 2 begins with them discovering an old computer terminal which controls a countdown clock, into which a series of numbers must be input every 108 minutes, purportedly to prevent some unknown disaster from happening, as explained in an orientation film they find ( http://www.thedharmainitiative.org/orientation/ ). The numbers, 4 8 15 16 23 42 (which add up to 108), are found elsewhere. They also were used to win one survivor the California lottery BEFORE he was stranded. HE got them from a fellow inmate in an asylum who repeated them incessantly, which is why he remembered them. His life was a nightmare of bad luck after he won the lottery.
This bunker is later found to be one of many, part of scientific/psychological experiments on the island. The two groups eventually unite (what is left of each!), with much friction.
I could go on, but would do it a further injustice than I already have. So many intertwining stories for each of the major characters, their lives prior to the crash and what brought them to be on board, make it captivating.
It is written much better than I've explained it. I enjoy it mainly for 2 reasons: it's not a FAKE reality show, and it's not another cop/law/CSI/political show. Just well-written fantasy.
Feel free to go to http://abc.go.com/primetime/lost/about.html for a better explanation. There are also numerous fan sites and blogs, which I don't have time to mess with.

I love Lost. I'm always trying to find good spoilers because its so hard to wade through all the repeats to get to the next new episode. I cannot believe Michael. Wow, what a surprise. Very well written.

Yeah, the Michael thread was a shocker the way they let it happen, then went back and explained it in the next show. I can understand him freeing Henry, but shooting Ana Lucia cold still amazes me. No matter what he needed to do for his son, I don't think it's in his character to do that.
Hugo is da man. Dude.

Did you get the title of that episode? "Two for the road" The two characters killed off were played by actors who each had DUI's in Hawaii that caused negative publicity for the show.

More likely Two for the Road was due to killing two women, and then being allowed to leave with Walt. Your opinion has more bite to it though. Let's stick with yours. LOL.
