I too am a band parent. I am a huge football fan, I watch the whole game and half-time show. I was in the band when I was in high school and I enjoyed being able to go to all the games. I volunteer with the band, so my seats are empty at times. Sometimes my oldest daughter will come to the game, or my mom, or friends...

We have had our season tickets since our oldest was in 4th grade. He is now a senior and plays on the Varsity football team. We love the football games and of course the "Best Show on Turf." Sometimes it's a little sad to see the stands empty (a little) after the half time show.

A lot of our seat-mates have had their season tickets for as long as we have. It's great to see them for home and away games....we miss them when they are not there. We will more than likely keep our tickets after our son graduates this year. BTW the Allen v. PESH game is senior night....the last home game for our seniors. I hope we pack the stands. Nothing light Friday night football in Allen, Texas. GO EAGLES!!!!

I'm not a band parent or a football parent or a parent of any other group involved with Friday night football - - but I think the existing system stinks.

I'm with whoever it was that said it should start fresh every year. I will add that I also think that parents of players, band members, drill team members, and cheerleaders, should have first dibs - maybe 4-6 tickets per family or something like that. They are the ones with the most invested. How about someone who moved into the district after the season ticket sales in June and then has a kid on the team or in the band and can't get close enough to see him/her play? They're just out of luck? "Thanks for the support now take a seat in the back???"

It drives me crazy to hear that an entire section in reserved seating was empty - -that "such and such" a bank or "so and so's" dentist's office owns those seats but no one ever uses them, etc. And I hear this often.

I'm so surprised that this system has hung on for so long. Anyone have any history on this? Is it that there has not been enough rukus made about it or is it just that the athletic department is so set in their ways? Boggles my mind.

There is a couple here in Allen who had a child in band more than two decades ago. Their child passed away much too young from cancer. They persisted in supporting the students faithfully for all these many years - attending every game at home and away - donating hundreds if not thousands of volunteer hours through the years to a system where they had no children enrolled. I have seen them in the stands at games as far away as Huntsville - just there to support the kids.

This lady is making her own brave fight with cancer now. Last Friday night - same day as a chemo treatment - they were in the stands.

This is one of a number of stories I could tell you. I just can't look at the crowd without seeing the faces.

I agree that it would be wonderful if there were an efficient way to redistribute reserved seats that would go unused at the last minute. I am not in favor of telling long time season ticket holders "tough luck."

I agree it would be nice if they would either start fresh every season or have a way for those unused tickets to get used. I don't worry about it anymore, tried to get into a few games and found it impossible so I don't bother and with no kids it's not that big a deal but for those who do have kids it needs to be fixed.

I'm not for saying 'tough luck' either. But I can't understand anyone thinking they deserve a ticket just because they've always had one and always been a fan or whatever.

It just seems a natural progression to "move over" when your kids are through and let the new parents enjoy this short 'season' of their own children's lives. Personally, it's just one of those golden rule things for me. And this comes from my heart because this doesn't even affect me. We buy our tickets in advance each week and just sit on the visitor's side or the end zone. Of course we'd enjoy better seats but I wouldn't want to take a seat from someone whose child is involved in playing or performing, etc.

I'm not for restricting anyone from getting tickets - -I just think that those who have kiddos involved should have first choice before the remaining tickets are offered to the general public. Believe me I understand your touching story. I'm positve that there are plenty of stories like yours out there - -people who donated more money or more time or contributed more 'spirit' or whatever. I'm just trying to look for a solution to what seems to be an unfair situation.

Another problem I noticed from looking back over some old posts on this forum is that people in line for the season tickets were able to by LARGE numbers of tickets - -like 30 at a time. I think there should be a limit - -as I've stated in my earlier post. You know - -maybe 6 or 8 or 10? If you need more than that, you buy yours and go back to the end of the line to get another 10 after others have had a chance to make their first purchases.

I don't think this will get solved here. Just wanted to hear what others thought.

I no longer have a child in school in Allen but I think your statement was very well said. If the district wanted to they could come up with a solution that would be fair so everyone could have an equal chance. Like so many other things here it's about who you are and how much money you have.

The selling of season tickets needs to be revamped. I was one of the lucky ones who camped out and was able to buy six tickets - although not all together. We've attended each game and to my amazement, we've had room to spread out. Allen ISD should consider:
1) A limit on how may can be bought should be easy. Each physical address should be limited (to avoid two people in the household from buying more tickets).
2) Having a system where unused tickets can be sold if they are not used. Perhaps the band or another organization could do this and keep a portion.
3) Charge more for the premium seats around the 50 yard line. As it stands, all seats are $8.00.
4) Allow season ticket holders to buy general admission tickets during the summer. There's a ton of parents who buy tickets for the entire family but the kids sit with the student section. The kids use their "season ticket" to get in but have no intention of actually sitting in that seat. We in fact are guilty of this very thing. However, our son is able to find us during the game because his ticket stub allows him into our section.

I'm sure that there are other ideas that would allow people to obtain tickets if they were available. We just need the Allen ISD to LISTEN and do something now before there are no available tickets for any new parents.

This may be a bit simple, but why not remove season tickets, and make all seats general admission? That's how it was way back when I went to high school, and Allen was the first time I had ever heard of having high school season tickets.
