Panda Express
   #11734 - 10/17/04 11:22 AM

Has anyone noticed the new building going up next to Taco Bell? It is going to be a Panda Express. I haven't heard anything about them although I am familiar with the chain. Good? bad?

There was a Panda Express in Frisco close to my old office. I liked it for a quick lunch that was better than typical fast food. There are some dishes they have all the time, then they rotate special dishes. That is great news that they are coming to Allen.
The food is served cafeteria style, so you don't have to wait for anything.

I wonder if they'll have someone in a panda suit standing on the corner when they open like the one at Lovers & Greenville did.

I think it's a Panda Express in the Grapevine Mills foodcourt. I liked it.

Generally a pretty good deal. There's been one in Irving for some years now. Panda suit??? Hmmm?? I wonder if they need someone for a part-time Panda, haha. Makes me think of an old zoo joke. May have to put it in Just for Fun.

Swung by the location of the new Panda Express yesterday. This thread started over a month ago, but the building is still just framework. Fast food places seem to usually be slapped up in a couple of weeks (or perhaps that is just my percerption). I wonder what is taking the Panda so long? Kind of anxious to have it near to home!

I too have pondered Panda's plight. But perhaps the sign tells the story. Most places with "now hiring" signs, want new employees. Perhaps potential Panda people have to FINISH the place first, haha.

I suspect the rain has to play a part in it.

Had some Panda Express last night. They opened up yesterday! YIPPIE!

I believe its just as good as Pei Wei! And cheaper!

For me, I'm gonna support the "east-side" Asian restaurant!

I did not find Panda Express food to have as much flavor as Pei Wei...but I like my food spicter than most. The service was extremely fast at the drive through and the convenience is unbeatable...especially after a hard week's work and the rain coming down.

Panda Express here in Allen.

Went there last Sunday to bring a take home for lunch.

Big disappointed... it tasted terrible.

After I had a couple of bite of each (had two entree with chow mein) I threw it away.

The Spring roll didnt taste good. It taste mushy and I couldnt quite whats in it. I too throw that out.

I like the Panda Express in Collin Creek Mall. It tastes better.

I agree,
Last Sunday I went there, let me give you guys a note on this place in my opinion:

Let's congratulate these people for taking on the task of business ownership.
I think they were not ready to start the day they did
1. The drive thru window took 17 minutes to serve me
2. When I approach the window I congratulate them on opening and she replied if I wanted Egg Rolls with that.
3. The FOOD ohhh my
4. Terrible, while driving to pick up the food a couple of employees walked by with the to go plates, like if they were rushing from Albertsons, in the process she dropped them in the mud
5. The portions of food were baby size, not that I eat a lot but Texas got me spoiled with food sizes
6. I paid $25 for two meals again not enough for one person
7. The rice was hard as if they didn't steam it completely
8. The rest of the food was badly presented and didn't have any taste

It all seems the product of a rushing crew, a badly planned opening and an untrained staff.
On a first day impression is everything, for that I have to say Pei Wei will continue to get my 4 starts and money.

Haven't been in yet...but local eateries would do well to practice what other places have. Some places have invited guests in before officially opening. This allowed employees and the menu bugs (figure of speech I think) to get worked out. It's not unusual to see people from these places run to the nearby grocers for supplies. The "shadow district" behind stores can be educational, haha.

My husband was off work on Monday and we drove by Panda Express intending to go to Pei Wei. Pei Wei was absolutely full with people standing around waiting for a seat. We went to Tin Star instead. We thought about trying Panda Express, but glad we didn't. Does anyone know when Pei Wei isn't so busy? Maybe around 2:00 in the afternoon? I sure would like to try it. I hope Panda Express gets their act cleaned up - probably needs to work out the kinks.

The food at Panda Express is good, the service is slow though. They also could do without the drive thru, it will create a real mess for people looking to park and walk-in and the drive thru is not much quicker than going inside it appeared when we were there last night.

We thought it was fine for fast food, though the service was a bit slow. We ate inside and I started getting irritated by the staff yelling "Welcome to Panda!" everytime someone walked in. It's definitely not Pei Wei, but it will do for some quick Chinese, but I will take it to go next time.

If you want to support an "east side Asian restaurant" then you need to try Ma Bo's on Greenville & Bethany. It is just a little hole in the wall but great food at a reasonable price.

My siblings and I used to come to Allen from Wylie for some Ma Bo's! We get Hong Kong Express a lot (they used to be programmed on my cell phone). Less than a mile from our house!

Had some take out the other day for the first time at that location. First off, I love the one in Collin Creek Mall. I was a little disappointed by the limited menu on the drive thru at the Allen location.

The orange chicken I thought was pretty tasty, with a little bit of bite to it. But the sweet and sour pork was not very good. Kinda bland. I get the steamed rice so, that cannot be messed up. Overall, I'll give it a coupleof stars and a couple of months before we go back. Let them get the cooks "seasoned".

In the meantime, Skillman Wok or Hong Kong Express cures my chinese fix.

This dinner for four was a real waste of money. The fried rice was better I think than Pei Wei but that is it. I am not sure what they use and call "chicken" but there is no real chicken meat in any of their dishes. The sauce makes the orange chicken edible, the Kung Pao and Hunan were gaging the family because it was nothing but fat and chewy texture. I knew a return trip was what I should do but could not really get back there conveniently. I e-mailed the company. They thanked me and would "report" it to the regional managers. Frankly, I am sure they all use the same meat products. We will not return. We are disappointed. We will stick with Pei Wei and hope that PF Chang finds its way out here.

Speaking of Chinese foods. I still prefer China Sun which is on the northwest corner of Spring Creek and 75. Its yummy. Wish thers a China Sun here in Allen.

When Im in Collin Creek Mall, theirs Panda Express is really good. Alot better than this one here in Allen.
I once brought a take home from Panda Express here in Allen. I had a couple of bites, it was horrible. what a waste, I was disappointed and threw it out.

Maybe I'll give a couple months and maybe give a try. Hope they are working to improve better.

We haven't been there yet, but I have to agree that Ma Bo's is really good and convenient for us because they are close to where we live. They even have steak and chicken fingers for kids who are picky eaters (mine). As far as Panda Express goes, I'll have to read some very different reports than what the majority have posted here before we eat there.

Unfortunately my take on panda express came in college. And it was deplorable. Touche. Another chain in Allen...I look forward to the Bethany/Central development on the SW corner....

Lulu, don't know if you know or not, but PF Chang's owns the Pei Wei chain. I don't think they would put both names within the immediate vicinity of each other, especially since PF Chang's considers itself a bit more on the upscale side. But maybe with Market Street or the Star Wood developments coming in--who knows, they just may do that.
