Napoleon Dynomite
   #13990 - 01/13/05 01:46 PM

This movie is hysterical. Heard about it through word of mouth. It's off the wall humor that has our whole family rolling. It's rated PG, but IMO is VERY mild. I'll be curious to see what others think. (or maybe we have a wharped sense of humar!!!) It's usually checked out at Blockbuster - so we bought our own!

I've heard the same thing. I actually have it at home right now and plan on watching it sometime this weekend. My nephew saw it twice, so I know I'll end up liking it :)

A friend - a movie buff and movie "snob" - had told me some time ago that he had liked this movie. I finally saw it a couple weeks ago. It started out seeming very odd and then grew and grew on me. There are few movies that I am willing to see twice and this would be one. Napoleon is such a character with such odd mannerisms that he's hysterical to watch.

My wife and I watched this movie last weekend and it was not to our type of humor. We prefer slapstick and really blatantly obvious humor, for example Dodge Ball, and Napoleon Dynomite was just weird to us. Although I will have to say that so far we are the only ones who haven't liked it out of everyone who has seen it.

This is one of the best comedies, or movies for that matter, that I have seen in a while. My 14 and 12 y/o boys made me watch it...and now I am hooked...we bought our own copy...it is a great family movie.

I didn't appreciate the humor. I have a teenager and it was like listening to him backtalk me for two hours. Of course my teenager loved it and bought the movie.

I watched this movie this weekend with my son, I didn't think it was as funny as every said that it was going to be. It was cute in some ways, but in others I just laughed because of some uncomfortable moments or it could have been we watched it at 2 A.M. in the morning. It is a good moving for people who get picked on all the time in school, to give them support to let them know they are not alone and they can win and go for what they want. It brought back some memories of when that happened to me (got picked on), it would have been a good movie to have back in "my day". "GAAA"

Okay. I finally got around to watching this movie and I thought it was freaking hilarious! Of course, I have a twisted sense of humor, so maybe that's why I liked it! :) I guess I'm just a 35 year old kid that still likes silly stuff like this.

What is so funny about a nerdy guy getting teased and pushed around constantly?

Maybe it is just mis-classified as a "comedy" and should be reshelved as drama. If there is humor in it it must come around after 20 minutes into the film, because that was how long I put up with it before shutting it down.

There are "genuine cult classic" types films, but this is one where it seems they set out trying much too hard to create one and it comes across as very forced and contrived.

I rate ND right up there with "The Gong Show Movie" and "She's So Lovely". I'm now trying to get Blockbuster to expunge it from my rental record.

I haven't seen it but if the humor is based on Bullying I think I'll skip it.
Give me "Rudy" any day. Or maybe "Radio".

No, it isn't based on bullying. I think it's more about a misfit coming into his own and us seeing that he can be appreciated in spite of or because of his odd quirks. ND draws you in. At first he's just weird and off-putting to the viewer and to the other characters in the movie. But by the end he becomes a captivating character and has drawn other characters in the movie to accept him.

The movie definitely has an odd brand of humor that won't be to everyone's liking - but the oddness is part of the charm for me. He's portrays one of the oddest characters I've seen in film since Johnny Depp as Gilbert Grape.

I liked it about as much as I liked My Big Fat Greek Wedding. The only thing was, I couldn't hit the stop button. I made myself watch that stupid movie.

1* out of 5*

I really couldn't get into it. That's odd because usually the dumber, the better for me.

Rented this yesterday, popped it in and within 15 minutes it was out of the DVD player. Kind of had a bad feeling about the movie when I saw it was made by MTV films but tried to give it a chance. Just couldn't stand the monotone drone of his voice and it appeared the movie would be too slow for a comedy. :(

I haven't seen the movie, but today a student came in quoting some of the lines.... I don't think I want to, AND I don't think someone that age should either.

The movie is PG13. As far as I recall, there were no curse words and no sexual references. This is a very tame movie by any standard. You may not like the humor, it is subtle...but I think most of us that like the movie do so because it reminds us of when we were dorky teen agers.

Okay, went and listened to some GOSH, I don't think many of the students that come to the center should be watching this movie. Remember we only pick up kids through 6th grade and so the PG13 might have given the parents an idea that it might not be the best thing to watch with their K 1st or 2nd grader. IMHO

What the flip was grandma doin on the sand dunes???

Luckyyy

Pedro offers you his protection....

Really, IMO I think the things that are said in the movie are mild in comparison to some of the cartoons like YuGiOh or those types of shows. I can't help myself, this movie makes me laugh out loud. I'm so happy at the end when both Napoleon and Pedro are triumphant!! Pedro for President!!
