There's a great new piece being added to the Allen Station Park this weekend, it's called 'The Edge'. A new skate park for the skateboarders and roller skaters out there, a BMX park for aspiring BMX'ers and (most important hehe) 2 regulation sized roller hockey rinks! Come on down and enjoy the festivities, see some bike and skateboard action and check out the ASA roller hockey exhibition games starting at 11:30 & 12 noon.
Also on hand will be the Texas Tornado's National Championship Cup, they won the Junior Hockey National Title for the second straight year!
It's located all the way in the back of Allen Station Park, festivities start at 10AM.

This place is easy to find - from Exchange Pkwy. turn left like you are going to Allen Station baseball fields, but keep going straight, eh - actually curvy to the other end just before you get to St. Mary's Drive. It is on your right. Or, you can take Main Street when travelling west on McDermott from Greenville and turn right on Cedar Drive. It is just a couple blocks down on your left. It is very impressive - supposed to be one of the top skateboard, rollerblade, BMX place in the U.S.

Yep, those are easy and good directions. :) The skate park and BMX park are supposed to be one of the tops in the country and they do look it to me. I'm not a skateboarder or BMX biker (too old and brittle lol) but they do look tempting, I'll stick with the hockey. :)

There is a great article in today's DMN about Allen's new skate park. Also profiles a Lowery center student that helped with the design and will be on a teen governing board. Kudos to the Lowery principle that encouraged "skater" kids to form a school club. Makes me feel good about our city, our schools, our kids, and our school leaders.

So . . . Did anyone go to the opening of this new park yesterday? I slept in late and had errands to run. None of us do any of these activities, so it didn't make sense for us to go. I saw on the sign on Exchange Pkwy. that they were shuttling people from the high school and the First Baptist Church parking lots. They must have expected a huge crowd.

There was definitely a huge crowd, early on it was fine because the clouds were blocking the sun but by noon time the sun was out in full force and my kids were playing hockey in the hot sun and sweating their rear ends off. lol We played two games and both went well, to show off the ASA Roller Hockey League although if the weather was a bit cooler they would have had more pep in their step.
The skate park and BMX trails were both big hits as well, it's a really nice facility and will serve the youth of Allen well.
