Home Appliance Warranty
   #17453 - 06/08/05 03:22 PM

I was hoping to hear your experiences if you are enrolled in a home appliance warranty program. Are they worth it and are the technicians they send competent? I am trying to make up my mind if it is preferable to start setting aside some money for home repair or to enroll in one of these plans.
Thanks

I am not (nor will I be) enrolled in any kind of a home warranty program. My husband is a HVAC technician and his former company did home warranty work. The limitations that are placed on the repairman by the warranty company (at least in his case) were awful! Basically, they were told to "band-aid" the air conditioner rather than fix it correctly. They had to do the cheapest thing to get the system to work - for the moment. That's just my experience... Good luck!

I have American Home Shield as my warranty company. I have had it for 4 years now and pay about $30.00 a month. I finally had to use it just a few weeks ago and I am now trying to decide wheather to cancel it or not. Eight days after I had to have open heart surgery my air condition went out. This was on a Sunday and the company upgraded my call to a medical emergency which I thought was very nice. The company that they sent out was Tech Air Conditioning out of Richardson. That is where the problem started. AHS approved the repair on Monday morning but Tech Air did not get it installed until Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. This may not sound too long for some people but when you have had surgery sitting in a hot house is not what you want or need to be doing. Tech Air wouldn't even give me a specific time they would try to come and was very rude to me. Finally I looked them up on the BBB and found that they have had complaints that they have not even tried to satisfy. This is where it falls back on AHS for not sending a company that is has a good reputation. Does anyone use one that they have had good luck with?
