Has anyone noticed that there seems to be some activity going on with the old Allen Cafe on Main and Cedar? I was hoping someone might know what was going on and what this might become. Thank you and have a great day!

I've seen that too. I wish someone had just bought it and turned it back into the old Dairy Queen that it once was.
I do know that the same people that own the Italian Villa own Allen Cafe. Maybe someone there knows when they may re-open.

My understanding was it was just a remodel. When it reopens, it will still be Allen Cafe.

Nash is the owner. He also owns Italian Villa and Nash Auto. He's just remodeling Allen Cafe. I will be the same restaurant it was before it closed down.

This is great because I'm so pleased to see downtown Allen revitalizing. Out of curiousity how long as the Allen Cafe been closed, and what type of foods did they serve? I always thought it was an old relic from the 50's or 60's and imagined how neat it would be if it would come back alive with that 50's diner theme.

It would be neat to have a theme like that. And some of us remember when it was the DQ in the "70's", long before the Cafe days. Back then you could choose between the DQ or the Royal Drive-In, and not much else.

Probably not too many people even know about the Royal Drive-in - or where it was located - at Central and Allen Drive.
I miss the old Dairy Queen. I wish we did have one here in Allen again. We drive to Plano to eat at DQ.
It will be interesting to see the Allen Cafe when they are finished with the remodel. The last time I drove by it was an empty shell of a building - even the windows were taken out.

In the process of moving back to Allen, we've noticed the Allen Cafe and can't wait for it to reopen.
The Royal was my bus stop for school many many years ago. The counter guy was Danny and I think he was made of steel...nothing us kids could do rattled him.

They need to get a move on with the reopening of Allen Cafe! Obviously, Fairview Country House didn't meet the breakfast crowd's expectations (pricey and slow). And I'm not eating at McDoodles for breakfast.
Anyone heard anything about when Allen Cafe will reopen its doors???

I'm curious - what was ordered at the Allen Cafe that was good? We ate there the August 2003 and I had a chef salad that was wilted iceberg lettuce and flimsy slivers of meat and cheese that appeared to come from an Oscar Meyer type package. My husband had a patty melt, didn't look like any other patty melt he'd ever seen.

Hmmm...don't know. Maybe it was home to "The unique patty-melt"?? I haven't been there since it was the DQ. BTW, this was a few weeks back, haha.

BREAKFAST? If you don't mind cold cream sausage gravy over so so warm biscuits . . . Maybe they will get a different cook and get on the ball with serving hot food that is supposed to be hot and cold food such as salads that aren't wilted.

Mr. Nash is an AWESOME person. He and his family have never been anything but kind to my family. I ALWAYS have my cars fixed by his crew at Nash Automotive, and he always quotes me higher than I am charged. His Italian Villa ROCKS! And I am sure that Allen Cafe will come back better than ever. I mean just look at all the work he has done on it....Most of it all on his own! WOW!

I miss it too! I keep saying that, one day, I'm going to open a DQ franchise in Allen again. I always think that's a restaurant that doesn't get its due. You can't beat the Blizzard!
