Does anyone here have any experience with opening a new business in Allen? I am wondering what their experience is in dealing with the city. Are they pro-business or overly bureaucratic?

I think it might have something to do with what kind of business it is. Will it need a special use permit? Parking? Lots of those kinds of questions. It's been along time since I opened my business and they say many things have changed.

Yes on parking but no special use permits will be needed (to my best knowledge). They seem to publish the building code on their web site. However, I have heard that they are "creative" or very inconsistent in enforcing the code. I have talked to one person who indicated that they like to make it up on their own depending on who you deal with at the city.
I'm trying to get multiple opinions. May do something in Allen or other site locations outside of Allen.

Hmmm...creative...that's it, haha. I don't have Business experience with them, but in the neighborhood enforcement stuff...yeah, I guess creative fits.

Not getting much help. I did get some info from a PM but I would like more info. I am leaning one way but would like to hear about other's experiences that might sway me.

I'm pretty sure that if you want to open a dry cleaners, bank, nail salon or dentist office that you'll be a shoe-in. Those seems to be the only businesses allowed in!
Sorry, had to vent about that..

Don't forget a pizza restaurant or a donut shop.

. . . or a storage facility.
Seriously, I hope you do get the information you need about starting your own business. Don't forget about all the IRS paperwork (form SS-4 for your tax ID) or if you want to be incorporated, there is paperwork from the Secretary of State of Texas that needs to be completed. The Secretary of State of Texas or IRS will also be the ones to get the sales tax permit forms.
