We had heard mixed reviews about this place so we weren't sure what to expect but hubby and I had lunch there yesterday and really enjoyed it. Their lunch menu is reasonably priced, the food was better than most of the other Tex-Mex in town and the service was excellent (when the manager saw that my hubby might not share his guacamole, he brought me my own free of charge ) The week of the 12th they are donating 25% of sales to the Red Cross hurricane relief so be sure to stop in and give them a try (or a re-try) thay are worth it.

We also love Ricardo's. When my parent's come to town they always take us there and pay for it. So it is nice all the way around. And their Queso ROCKS!

Hi, I'm new to the group, and this is really neat! I have post my two cents that we love Ricardo's too! The prices are reasonable and it's not too fancy, great for bringing kids.

Finally got around to trying Ricardo's last nice. (Which we sought out, btw, because of good opinions we saw out here.)
Food was wonderful. Service was good. Prices consistent with other upscale Mexican food places. Husband had tamales. I had the shrimp. Very flavorful. I would leave the sour cream sauce off the shrimp next time - just me. I say that because the flavor of the grill was so good.
We will certainly go back.
PS - They are closed on Sunday. We found that out.

My friend and I went to Ricardo's for lunch today. We were so excited to try this restaurant, especially after the good reviews here on this forum. We were so disappointed. The service was good, but the food was horrible. We arrived a little after 1:00 p.m., so after the lunch crowd. There was only two other people eating in the restaurant. My friend had the #10 lunch, and said she was not impressed and would not be back. I had the #7 lunch, fajita soft tacos, rice and beans, and I had the Allen-online coupon for the bowl of queso. Queso was just okay. The meat in the tacos, while very flavorful, was so full of gristle that I thought I might choke while trying to chew. I was embarrassed at one point because I couldn't bite through the meat. The beans looked as if they had been sitting out for hours, hard on top, and cold. The rice had a slightly burnt flavor. The only thing I enjoyed about the lunch was the salsa and chips. I will not return to this restaurant. I guess I will continue take my dollars to Plano or McKinney (San Miguels) when I want mexican food or tex-mex, unless I'm in the mood for Mexi-Go.

I just have to say I just did not like Ricardos either. No one in my family did. I kind of expected it to be good because of the glowing reviews here, but it was mediocre at best. I thought that the menu was very limited and it was the same old thing that every tex/mex place has. There is nothing stand out about it. It was just very meh. Oh well, we are still on our quest to find great tex/mex and mexican food here. We did go the Hacienda Hideaway this weekend (at least I think it is called that), and I had the best catfish (I know, not exactly tex/mex) I have ever had! It was sublime. It was lightly spiced and flat-ironed so it was slightly crispy, but not oily at all. It was just wonderful. Mmmmmm

Glad to see i'm not the only one that doesn't think the food at Ricardo's is very good. The menu selection is to small and the food is very blah. For really good tex-mex try Uncle Julio's along the No. Dallas toll road right before Arapaho in Addison. it's on the north bound service road side of the toll road,if your headed north it would be right past Arapaho.

If you want some really good Mexican food, you might try the Blue Goose down on lower Greenville in Dallas. I've been going there for 18 years and love it. However, I don't think the one in Plano is as good as the Greenville location.

There's also a Blue Goose in Plano off of Park near Preston.
Here's another for Uncle Julio's.

Mmmm, Uncle Julio's. Haven't eaten there in a few years, but it at least used to be awesome.
Some other good North Dallas area choices:
Herrera's (several locations, family owned) Posado's (regional chain, but pretty good)

I am a firm believer in eating at Allen restaurants so that they stay in business. My favorite Allen Tex/Mex restaurant is Tamollis, East Main & Jupiter.

Thank goodness we all don't like the same thing.
We love their queso.
Oh, my favorite is the #7 lunch special with chicken.

Me too. Unfortunately, it's hard to find more than a handful of decent restaurants in Allen.

Hi to all,
In the interest of keeping this thread organization and focused on the topic at hand, please start a new topic if you would like to discuss other Mexican restaurants than Ricardo's.
Thanks,

Hubby and I enjoyed another yummy dinner at Ricardo's tonight. Our server was great (I'll forgive him for not carding me). Food was delicious!
