Can anyone recommend a good veternarian?

We will be getting a puppy this weekend and would appreciate any assistance.

In keeping with the Webmaster's request, if they do not advertise on Allen On Line, please send me a private e-mail.

Pirate, I wasn't sure how to get your address to email you privately.
I don't see our vet as an advertiser so if you'd like drop me a line at:sk_aley@yahoo
I will say that I love our vet, and unforutnately they know us better than our pediatricians office. Dog has allergies.
Always helpful and friendly, wish I could have them take care of the kiddos.
Good luck with the puppy.

Dr. Overton is the best, always will be the best. Used him for close to twenty years. He is on McDermott (east) by Texas Game Co and Braums. (Don't have time to browse all the companies.)

PLEASE tell me you have had a lab before or know what to expect. We have 5 dogs. We actually bought one of them about 13 years ago. The other four were dumped/someone begged us to take them because they were "too big and needed room to run" (translation: out of control) two of them are labs. The younger (black)is about 14 months and just-beginning-to-think-about-starting -to-maybe-someday-calm-down-a-little. Labs are wonderful dogs if you know what to expect. Our older lab is my favorite dog of all time. He loves to be right in the middle of the whole family. He rides in the car with me everywhere I go, it just hurts his feelings to have to stay home like a DOG. By the way, we tried three different vets in town. I finally made it over to Dr. Overton, and felt at home.

Congratulations on getting a new puppy! Another vote for Dr. Overton here. Also, I have to tell you, we got a chocolate lab back in August. She's wonderful! I do suggest, however, to get her into a dog training class ASAP - these dogs are let's say...energetic, to say the least! They need a lot of attention and excercise, but they are loving, sweet dogs! Have fun!

We use Overton too. Might get to visit him in a couple of days if Dixie keeps having issues at about 4 a.m.! Anyone know an easy (nice) way to take a hyperactive border collie's temperature? I'm not willing to try the obvious way!

Here is another vote for Dr. Overton. Been using him for many years now. I knew him when he started practicing here in Allen.

Hey, as far as taking a dog's temperature, I believe there is only one way because I don't think you will get them to hold it under their tongue! I don't know if those ear themometers would work for dogs since the hair around and sometimes in their ears might be in the way. I've only seen it done at the other end.

There are ear thermometers for pets but this method is more accurate in children than with dogs and cats. To take an anal temperature, get a digital model in the children's section of a department store. Look for a model with a long neck and lubricate it with a water soluable lubricant such as KY. Have someone hold on to the dogs muzzle to control the head and clutch the body up against their chest with the other arm to secure your pet. How far you need to insert it will depend on your dogs size. Expect a reading around 101.5 degrees.

Wow! I guess Dr. Overton it is.

I appreciate all the recommendations I've received here and through my private e-mail.

Thanks again.
