Hi, I'm new to forum. Although I've lived in the McKinney area for over 20 years, I admit I don't know much about Allen these days. One thing I've heard is of the increasing number of places to eat. Can you recommend some of your favorite places for me to try? I'm really not looking for any of the typical chain places, I'm more interested in places that are locally owned. Where is the best place for dinner? Who has the best lunch deal? Best sandwich, burger, salad, Mexican...? In advance, thank you for all your time and recommendations!

I personally like: Itailian - Joe's Italian Bestro(Bethany & Greenville) Mexican - Jalapeno's (Greenville & Main) Burgers - JC Burgers (75 & Mcdermott by the Albertson's) and Mimi's I guess is a chain, but there aren't very many of them. They have a good variety (75 & McDermott in front of Tom Thumb)

My (grown) kids and I agree with Joe's Italian Bistro. They know our names and always remember that one of my sons and I are allergic to mushrooms, and my daughter is allergic to shirimp.

Prima Pasta located in the Stacey's furniture mall (NW 75 & McDermott) is my favorite Allen resturant.
For burgers - JC's Burger House and Scotty P's.

Italian - got to agree with the others about Joe's Italian Bistro - really good food!
We also like Mimi's and Two Rows - both chain restaurants but they only have a few locations.
I'm sure breadlover2006 will post here soon about what a great place Voila! is but I'll give you an unbiased opinion and say their bread is very good.
Elke's is a great lunch place - though maybe a bit pricey.

I love Scotty P's. JC's is a close second, but I like Scotty's fries.

Our favorite Chinese food is the Lotus Garden Buffet next to Brookshire's on Greenville. We enjoy El Fenix (in McKinney) when we want Mexican. Elke's chicken salad sandwich for lunch.

Agree about Joe's, outstanding food and service. I still love Italian Villa but think Joe's edges them out.

Stacey's Chinese Express beats all the other Chinese places by miles... and it's right between McKinney and Allen, east of 75 on Stacey

Is Stacey's a buffet? We used to love Lotus until we found something in our food that didn't belong! (It moved!) We didn't go for a long time and then reluctantly gave them another chance. It seemd the place changed hands or management and the food was not any good anymore. We like buffets for the choices.

That's buffets for you. There's always a surprise waiting, either in your food or a litle after you leave one of those places. Stacy's is not a buffet, but is very good, seems clean, and it's never made us sick. Give them a try.

Stacy's is almost exactly like Pei Wei, in my opinion, but both are good...and expensive.

What about Napoli's? I've read ya'lls opinions on Joe's and Italian Villa, but how does Napoli's fare against those two?

I've never been to the Napoli's in Allen. There use to be one near work that we would go to from time to time. If it is the same, then it was very good, but i like Joe's the best out of the three. But you can't go wrong with either of them....

My current favorite restaurant in the area is Love and War in Texas (Texas De Brazil is a close second). The menu is organized by 5 geographic regions of the state. Its a carnivores dream come true. You can get bison, wild boar, antelope, quail etc. Click on Texas Food on the website and then the different parts of the map to see the menu.
