Allen Preschool recommendations
      #35912 - 01/25/07 04:32 PM

Does anyone have any suggestions regarding preschools in Allen or surrounding areas for my 3 year old? I have been paying $150.00 a month where we are now and tuition is going up and we just cant afford anymore than that.

Thanks so much,
Stephanie

$150 a month?!? For full time? No way there is anywhere cheaper than that.

My kids go to Cottonwood Creek Baptist. They have a Kids Day Out program that's 2 days a week for $135. Three year olds can either go to Kids Day Out or the preschool program. I think the preschool program is $195 for 3 days a week. http://www.cottonwoodcreek.org/kidcare/

There's a program called Learn and Playdays through the AISD. I think the tuition there is $150 and it's supposed to be an excellent program. One of my friends sends her kids there. Their enrollment is on the lottery system. http://www.allenisd.org/web/About/lnp.html

There is also a preschool program called Discovery days at the methodist church on McDermott, just east of 75. I've heard they are priced reasonable as well.

Is this for 5 days a week? Or more like a Mother's Day Out pre-school?

Just wanted to correct something I posted. The Discovery days program is at the Allen First Baptist church on McDermott - not the methodist

Are there any recommendations for a similar preschool program (two/three days a week) but non-religous?

I would suggest checking the daycare centers. I think Primrose has a part-time preschool program (at least they do in the summer) and Creme de la Creme may have one also.

There's also Apple Creek private preschool. I've heard it's good but it's more expensive than the church ran programs. It's just 3 hours a day instead of 5 hours.

At Home Academy's tuition is $140 for full time care. Rates haven't gone up since 2002 and no rate increase is in the works. See the ad here on Allen Online.

Often times you will find childcare centers to take "drop ins" that is what our center calls those students that only come a couple times a week. We offer that option at our center. The cost becomes more than fulltime cost when the student comes 3+ days a week. Our fulltime rate for 3 year olds and up (potty trained) is $113.00 per week that includes lunch and snacks. Drop in rate is $39.00 per day. The rate drops considerabley when the student enters elementary school.

When I talked to SAHMs I tell them about mother's day out programs here in town. Even when they are church sponsored that does not mean they are overly religous. MDO programs offer socialization and academic enrichment and in many cases that is exactly what SAHMs are looking for.
