From an article discussing the office park construction at Twin Creeks at 75 & Exchange...
A rehabilitation hospital and skilled nursing home are under construction. Plans are being finalized for a dialysis center, allergy center and home fashion center. In the spring, Bentonville, AR-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc. will break ground on a supercenter.

With one in McKinney and one just down the road from Allen, at 75 and Spring Creek, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to put another at 75 and Exchange if you ask me.

There goes another nice area. I'm pretty sure there are at least two Walmart's in McKinney now. There is also one off of 121 & Ohio in Frisco. Walmart is not happy until they put everyone else out of business.

And I was told once, by someone that seemed to know, McKinney is going to see at least four of the Super ones there. Of course they're a larger developing area. I'm not gonna start the old thread about Wally leaving Allen years ago....but it's likely the Big Blue/Gray Boxes will grow almost anywhere they want to.

The Sam's Club in McKinney just opened up a week or two ago and that even put a dent in the business at the Sam's on Spring Creek. I go there about every couple weeks and last time I went, I didn't have to wait in line. I have gotten away from shopping at the WalMart over there too. I think we went there once last month for a minimal purchase. I know there were a lot of people years ago that were very unhappy about when WalMart pulled out of Allen and I guess now they want to come back. I don't think a WalMart in Allen will make me want to shop there again. The reason I do not like that store anymore is because of the poor customer service. I'm not going to get into any long story, but let me say that it has gone downhill.

they probably figured that since the one in plano is so busy, and the one in McKinney is so busy, why not open on in between...

Just one guy's two cents here (and Wally would like the two cents, instead of my comments, haha). Many business chains will open another store due to volume at other locations. I'm sure in my own mind, that isn't what determines these locations. They're huge and on the march....wanting to be available and become the choice for everyone. Yes even folks like me will be in there for something, eventually. When I boycotted them for many years...they kept growing, so I can't stop them, haha.

I didn't know that Allen USED to have a Walmart? We've lived here for going on 10 years and I don't recall one ever being located in town.
Where was it at?

Beamer answered it. They moved from there, and opened one at Spring Creek and US 75. That was the beginning of the WM expansion into the Plano market, having one on each side there. Hmmm, I remember another story for the memories, related to WM here. I'll think on it for now.
Bottom line is that this proposed site for a super-center, will be a good location I think. But every person is entitled to their reaction about having one around.

I guess nobody thinks of the same situation with Home Depot & Lowe's putting most of the True Value & ACE hardware stores out of business. Don't forget about a Home Depot at 15th, Lowes at Spring Creek, BOTH at McDermott, HD at 380.--all on the same stretch of highway.
Not to mention Target either. Especially Target when--let's see--there is a Target at Parker & 75, McDermott & 75, 380 & 75. Three stores in one 11 miles stretch of highway.
So exactly how is WM different than the others?

I thought it was where Winn Dixie was located (currently Eagles Wings Athletics)?

No, that site (buildings) didn't exist then.

Agreed. But the point I'm trying to make is that a lot of people are complaining that there are too many WMs already--"there is one on Spring Creek in Plano & two in McK." There are other huge Big Box stores that do that besides WM. Does anyone complain about Best Buy? 75 & Parker, 75 & 380. Kohl's at Parker & 75, El Dorado & 75, and one kinda in between at McDermott & Custer. Nobody gives a flip about them--just WM.
Sorry people lost the WM in Allen back in the 1990's. Get over it.

If people would stop shopping at Walmart they would stop building them. As long as people flock to them in droves they are going to build as many of them as the city zoning restrictions will allow.
I personally hate them and refuse to shop at them. It's hard to quantify why I hate them. I don't have a philosophical problem with Walmart like some people. It's just that every time I have been in one of their stores the experience hasn't been pleasant.

And that's perfectly fine. Good attitude.
Personally I like them best in the mornings. Freshly stocked, no crowds, buffed floors. Nice. I try to avoid peak times if at all possible. But then that's with any store.
As a simile--I refuse to buy paint at either Lowe's or HD on the weekends. Forget it. It's a madhouse. But do I hate HD or Lowe's? No way. I love those stores. Along w/ WM.

I like Wal-Mart, always have and probably always will. They always have whatever I need and I fit in there...it's a nice casual atmosphere. I won't go into the looks I get for wearing flipflops or work clothes in Target...where I might find what I need.

Since we moved to Allen, we have shopped at the Super WalMart at Lake Forest and McKinney Ranch. It never seem busy and it is cleaner than most.
I live off of Exchange, so I am not sure I will like the extra trafic coming on and off of 75.
It would be nice if this WalMart was like the one located on the Dallas North Tollway in Plano.
