Hate to hear that, but understand as well. The list will include two that I currently go to. Oh well, hopefully something else will consider these locations soon.

I figured that was coming. We do stop in there occasionally for groceries. Hopefully it won't sit empty for very long after closing, but the one on Spring Creek and 75 has been boarded up for quite a long time now.

I figured that would happen too. I personally didn't like that store. I can't say I've had good experiences there. The one in McKinney off 75 and El Dorado seems like it'll stay open.

They caused their own demise. Like many companies, they overlooked the principle on which their organization was founded... customer service. I shopped there 3 to 4 days a week for years. No one knew my name, never saw a manager on the floor, they seemed not to pay attention to restocking items. I finally gave up and haven't been back in a couple of years. Now trips to the store aren't so frustrating. If they try to blame their lack of business on the community, or the location, they are nuts.

I feel bad for a few of the employees, they have always worked hard and I hate to see this happen to them.

Here, here to what MsAlyce said. There are some employees at the Allen store that consistantly have given us great service over the past few years. Hope their attitude translates into new employment quickly.

After learning of this earlier, I had to run some local errands. When time for the grocery store came up, I decided to go in Albertson's for some sympathy shopping, haha. I know it won't help them, but I was thinking of them. And I ran into a neighbor there as well, haha. Yep, hope they all get placed nearby soon.

Sad to see any business in Allen not make it.......I used to love Albertsons.....but ever since self checkout and that anoying computer voice......I stopped using them. Early morning shopping, after dropping kiddo at school, self checkout is the only option, and I dont want to do the work and endure the frustration.....sad to see them go....will miss their awesome bread and the best price on fresh flowers!

I never really shopped at that albertsons much because Kroger is so much closer to me, but I think the thing that sucks the most about it is that the Bank of America inside will probably close too. Is there another BOA in Allen?

Yes, there's a BofA on McDermott next to Home Depot (and directly across the street from Lowes). Also, there's a free-standing BofA ATM at the northwest corner of Bethany and Greenville next to/behind the oil change place (can't think of the name of that). I only use that one in daylight hours though or DH gets mad at me!
I have mixed feelings about that Alberstons. I used to shop there all the time when I first moved to Allen. But, IMO, the service has really gone downhill in that store within the past few years.

I hate to see any store in Allen close, especially if it affects the other stores in the shopping center that I visit. When they had a big sale last week & it was so crowded, I thought something was up. I used to go there a lot to get DVDs before that part closed. We used to be able to get cheap DVDs for kids on Saturday nights when everything else was checked out at Blockbuster. I also thought they had the best priced flowers & loved their breads/cookies. I would shop there when they had good sale items, and when the kids were little they always thought Albertsons had the best toy aisle of any grocery store.
Time marches on...hope other stores will hire the employees!

I hear you about the self check-out thing. The thing that annoyed me the most is when the bagging area was full and I would want to move one of the bags out of the way to fill another one is it would tell you to put it back! Then the attendant would have to clear it on their computer so I could continue checking. Of course, I think Kroger also has the annoying self check-out computer voice too and it is just as frustrating to use at times. Both systems are slow at letting me scan the items - I want to scan them much faster - used to scan around 100 items a minute years ago when I worked at another grocery store during college!

The difference between the self checkouts at Albertson's and Kroger is that Kroger seems better at making sure there is someone parked at that area to help when the machine goes wacky. At Albertson's I would frequently have to wait, holler and rant to get someone's attention when there was a problem- although I have the same probelm at Wal-mart so it's not just an Albertson's exclusive. I do hate to see a business close as it effects so many people but I'm surprised that this didn't happen sooner, as an earlier poster pointed out if you don't focus on customer service you won't have customers for long...

Self-checkout and lack of customer service will be the downfall of ALL Albertson's stores if they don't fix the problem. Every time I tried to use the self-checkout, I ALWAYS had problems. It was annoying. The other thing was lack of product. Many times I would go in looking for something in the ad and they would be out. I stopped shopping there altogether. (I feel the same about all self-checkouts, by the way. They need to hire checkers and get rid of them!)

Those self checkouts are just one more way to make US do THEIR work. Have you noticed that more and more stores are finding ways for us to do their jobs? People wonder why they are so busy these days. IMHO it's because the businesses we have to deal with are slowly moving their service to us to complete. Don't want to hire a phone operator, put in a machine with 150 ways to find your answer. Of course, the one question you have doesn't fit into the 150 categories.
Shortly before Christmas I was in a big box store with a few items. This was around noon. There was only one checker and she was referring most people to the self checkout. I told her I didn't want to use it. She said she was only taking checks (I wanted to use my debit card). I couldn't believe it. I was so annoyed I pushed my cart away and said I was going to the competition, which I did.
It's bad enough we have to empty our baskets onto the "grocery mover" ourselves. I am not about to start checking and bagging my own groceries on a regular basis. I have enough things to do without adding "bagger" to my responsibilities.
If everyone absolutely refused to use those self checkout counters, I bet they would soon disappear from the stores.
Just think about it. How many checkers/baggers have been let go by making us do the work? This means we do more work so the stores can make a bigger profit. If this keeps up no one will have a job because the customers will be doing all the work!

I didn't shop there much, but did love the bread and thought their beef was quite good too. But, as you say,the customer service was the pits and I refuse to use the self-checkout.

My two cents on self-checkouts: All self-checkouts / automated systems are not equal. Personally, I would rather use a *good* (easy to use, not annoying, monitored) self-help system if it meant I could do it more efficiently / faster myself without having a wait in long lines. No offense to checkout workers, of course - been there, done that! :)
Having said that, I do like *friendly* checkout workers & stores with good customer service, which is why in some stores I prefer having them check out my groceries. If a store is not good at customer service and I like their products, I just prefer to check it out myself & get out of there quickly.
