I've been looking on the city's website to find out what the ordinance is for RV parking on city streets but can't find anything. Anyone know the policy is or where I can find it? |

How long has it been there? Sometimes people visit family this way and will stay for a week or two. A friend of ours who used to live in our neighborhood used to rent a motor home for the parents to stay in while they visited and would park it in front of their house. It usually wasn't there for very long. |

Municipal Code for City of Allen From Chapter 9, Article 1X, Division 1 Sec. 9-227. - Parking of trucks, tractors, etc., in residential districts. (a) It shall be unlawful for any person to park or stand any truck with a rated capacity in excess of one and one-half (1½) ton according to the manufacturer's classification or any bus, semitrailer, service vehicle, pole trailer, truck-tractor, house trailer, special mobile equipment, farm tractor or implement of husbandry upon any public street, alley or public right-of-way, or upon property within a residential area. This subsection shall not apply to the parking or standing of a vehicle for the purpose of expeditiously loading and unloading passengers, freight or merchandise. (b) It shall be unlawful for any person to park or stand any truck with a rated capacity in excess of one and one-half (1½) tons according to the manufacturer's rated classification, or any bus, trailer, semitrailer, pole trailer, truck-tractor, house trailer, special mobile equipment, farm tractor or implement of husbandry upon any public street, alley or public right-of-way within the city at any time from thirty (30) minutes after sunset until thirty (30) minutes before sunrise. (c) Passenger cars, pickup trucks with a rated capacity of three-quarters (¾) of a ton or less, passenger vans, and any type of disabled person's vehicle or trailer which displays a decal, identification card or other device issued in accordance with state law to any handicapped driver using the international symbol consisting of a stylized wheelchair on a blue background are exempt from this section. (d) It shall be unlawful for any person to park any recreational vehicle upon any public street, alley or public right-of-way within the city, except that a recreational vehicle may be parked on a residential street for the purpose of loading and unloading for a period not to exceed twenty-four (24) hours, and a recreational vehicle belonging to a person visiting a residential dwelling may be parked on a residential street for a period not to exceed five (5) consecutive days. Before you go calling to complain ask your neighbors...they may have family intown for a special occasion & they will move on shortly. Don't ruin their day, find something positive to do w/ your time. Think twice before causing them grief!! |

Mrs. Tex, You sure sound like a sweet gal. If I wanted to live in a KOA I would move to one. If they have family in town they can rent a space at a campground. My uncle and aunt are "fulltimers" and that is what they do. Otherwise there would be a huge fifthwheel in front of my house for three weeks every year. Not something they would even consider.

A couple of questions for you: 1) Do you have children that play in the street and require a clear view to run to and from the other side? 2) Is your yard/home such a beautiful place you don't want the view obstructed? 3) Are you the street captain for a neighborhood watch org or HOA? 4) What's the reason for finging out what you're asking? After looking at this thing again, it isn't an RV. It's a huge camper that has the hitch up on a block of wood and plastic wedges in front of the tires. There is no hose or electric line going from the house to the trailer. I determined that after walking the dog passed it. The windows are open. They have a truck parked in front of it with a roofing sign on the side. Maybe they move it to different sights when they have roofing jobs. With so many neighbors parked on the street especially on weekends, it's just a mess. I'm not a nasty neighbor. I won't turn them in for now, but if it is there for three weeks or so, I might talk to them. I'll never know when they are outside because I can't see their house! They are renting it. We all get along on our street and even have get-togethers. I'd like to include them in the future. Maybe the mailman will take care of it. It's parked too close to the mailbox so he may get tired of having to get out of the truck to give them their mail. |

But, now you've provided the answers for me indirectly. I'd def keep an eye out on it and ask them questions to get a feel for the situation before calling the City...

Here is an update on the RV parked in front of the house across the street. It got worse. The other day these people had 2 commercial trucks, the big trailer, a flat bed truck and a DUMP TRUCK with it's bed raised in the air all parked out front. Many neighbors have complained to the city. But I am happy to report that when I called the code compliance manager, Kathryn May, she said that they had two issues cited with them, one for trash and debris and the other for vehicles. She said they will watch the property for 24-48 hours and see if there is something more serious going on like running a business out of the home. I told her the trucks have company logos on them advertising a roofing company and there have been alot of men going in and out of the house during the day. So we will see. The code department is working with us and are being very helpful. |

I don't think they do. I don't know their last name and don't know where they moved to so I can't contact them. If they could see the big grease spots in front of their house, I think they would try to do something. The dump truck and commercial truck are still there. I'll call the city to get an update today. |

It is very easy to look up a property owner. Go to collincad.org and do a property search by address - that should give you the owners name and mailing address. |

No, it is over in the Vaughan Elementary area. Even more neighbors have called the city now so hopefully the dump truck and commercial trucks will be gone soon. The next issue will be their large pit bull and large red dog that get out of the back yard. |
