Hutchins is great, no doubt. Personally, I still put Pecan Lodge at the top, but it's far less accessible, especially for us "far Northerners", plus Hutchins serves the good stuff for lunch and dinner, all week long. I'd strongly encourage anyone who thinks that Dickey's is good BBQ to go to Hutchins and give them a try. The bad news is that, once you have some of their best (make sure and ask for the fatty brisket, or, if you must, just say the "moist end"), you'll be ruined for almost everywhere else. It really is that good. And DON'T go slathering it with sauce until you try just the meat by itself. You might surprised. Brad |

Yep, it's good. As good as Hard 8 or Pecan Lodge? Not sure about that, but the people have spoken.

Way better than Hard Eight. Although, H8, when they're on their game, can be pretty good. Alas, I've had too many occasions where the big pot of pinto beans were better than the mean. Having said that, those pinto beans are outstanding. :) Brad |

Yeah, H8 can be inconsistent. Hutchins is very consistent. Man, I'm getting hungry for some bbq.

We went to Hutchins today for lunch and could almost not get in the front door. We would have endured the wait except that they were struggling to find tables for folks who were just looking to sit down with their food. We'll try it later this week. We settled on Rudy's which I hadn't had - pretty damned good though! |

Hutchins is fantastic, and I'm so glad they are close but like Brad said Pecan Lodge has them beat. I'm a bbq fanatic. Dallas BBQ List 1. Pecan Lodge 2. Hutchins (tie) 2. Lockhart Smokehouse (tie) 3. 3 Stacks 4. Hard 8 5. Meshacks |

Very inconsistent ... at least with the brisket.

So, folks that have been to Hutchins, what is a typical weekend wait to be served? |

We ate there for lunch today and it was great. We did have about a 10 minute wait because there were no tables. I overheard a person who seemed to be in charge of the meat say that they are planning a 70 seat expansion this summer. I had a chopped beef sandwich which was really good. The fried okra was light batter and good. The macaroni was really good with ham in it. I had the free banana pudding after and it was also really good. Well worth the wait and we will certainly go back. We hit it at a good time because as we were leaving there were about 25 people in line which stretched well out the door. |

We went Sunday night for dinner at about 7:00. Only about a 5 minute wait to order and then another 5 minutes to wait for a table. The staff was very quick at turning the tables though. By the time we were finished it was pretty empty so I had a chance to talk to the server. She said it has been like that since they won this award and confirmed that they are planning an expansion this summer. Basically making the front patio part of the dining room and building a new front patio. Also said there is talks of possibly a 2nd location. Oh, and the food was good as ever. They were out of Pulled Pork so that made my wife sad, but everything else was great. Except for their cobbler, wasn't a fan of that. Also, I can't really get into their sauce. Not that it necessarily needs it, but I wish I could use Rudy's sauce with Hutchin's meat :)

dont get me wrong i love hutchins and i love supporting local places, but it probably wouldnt make my top 5 in DFW Pecan Lodge Slow Bone Lockharts Coopers Hard 8 Meshaks in Garland BBQ is so subjective. we are lucky that we have tons of good bbq joints and most are great. i even went to Rudys the other day for work and it surprised me on how good it was. |

I second that thought, what a great problem to have if you like BBQ to decide which option that you will enjoy the most. Much worse thing than this could exsit ! |

Any word on if the second location will impact their decision to expand the Mckinney location? |

From the way the employee told me, the expansion was the guarantee, the 2nd location was still in talks. So I would think (and hope) that the expansion will not be affected
