Hi!

My husband and I currently live in Frisco. Our lease is up in June and we have decided to move. We are actively looking in Allen. I have heard wonderful things about the schools there.

Currently, in Frisco, I feel that my son, who has severe ADHD with OCD tendencies, is not receiving the appropriate supports he should be for his disability.

I was wondering if anyone has an opinion about Ford or Curtis (or Ereckson even) and their ability to help a child with ADHD.

I am looking for a school that understands ADHD is a REAL disability and that classroom accomodations, teacher re-inforcements, and such are actually necessary.

We actually had a good support system in Richardson before we moved to Frisco and are also looking at homes for rent in Richardson. He WAS in Special Education since Kindergarten. Frisco took him out in 6th grade and refuses to implement a Section 504 plan. Since I am a teaching student for Special Education, I KNOW he is qualified and NEEDS at least a section 504 Plan.

I heard that Curtis is great with ADHD kids- understanding and pro-active, but that Ford is just average. Haven't heard anything about Ereckson. Of course, information on Lowery and Allen High School would be helpful also.

Any opinions?

Curtis has a an awesome PAS (Peer Attitudes for Success) program! I was and am ADHD and had many "issues" up until 9th grade or so. Mrs. Hemmenway (Formly Miss Johnson) has been with Allen ISD for a very long time and is great! She is the best teacher I have EVER had and has helped me so much personally and with school. Curtis is the BEST school for what you are looking for. I am 22 year old success story and Mrs. Hemmenway STILL keeps tabs on me.

My daughter goes to Ford. She isn't ADD, but has other issues that interfere specifically with her being able to write a lot. They have set up a 504 with no problem, with modifications that are very appropriate for her. Mr. Benesh (7th grade asst. principal) in particular has been very helpful, as has Mrs. Franke (7th grade counselor). They have been responsive to my questions and concerns and my daughter has had an excellent experience there so far. I hope this helps!

Thank you for that information. It is very helpful. I'm pretty sure we're set on Allen now. I think it's just going to be a matter of finding a house now. I think any of the schools will be good.
