Small dogs make wonderful pets and are always in demand. I was at the website for the Allen Animal Shelter and was very surprised to see so many small dogs up for adoption:

A couple were owner surrenders and others were stray. They also have some cute kitties for adoption. Anyway, if you are thinking about getting a new pet, be sure to look at the Allen Animal Shelter first. Be prepared for the extra cost and the unconditional love you will receive from your new family member.

Absolutely!! I got my chuhuahua from the Allen Shelter, he is so sweet. Only eight pounds. These animals will get put down if we do not take them.

I was at the shelter this week and this dog has been there for a few weeks and needs a home. Vikki Francis said he is a great dog - very friendly and playful and would make a good family pet. http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?pe...
Go by the shelter to see the dogs. They have quite a few and also a lot of cats of all ages that need homes. Yes, I know that at times a city shelter does put down dogs and cats, but I also know that Vikki Francis and her team at the Allen Animal Shelter work really hard to find homes for these animals. Right now she has a large dog that came in emaciated and she took him to the vet to have blood tests run to check for heart worms and to get the dogs its vaccinations and a check up. She has contacted the breed's rescue group to get a foster home for him to get him well so they can find a forever home for this dog. He needs lots of tlc before he can be adopted out since large breeds have special needs when they are so underweight like this dog. He was found running loose in a local park.
But, in the meantime, they do have a Boston terrier and a couple other small dogs along with large dogs that also need a home, so go to the Allen Animal Shelter first if you are looking for a new pet.
