Just curious... Where did you hear about trash dumped on the field?
Didn't hear - I saw it. All the trash cans in the stadium were stacked up in a pyramid in the center of the field on the eagle. There was a trail of trash leading to the denter of the field. Pretty nice work for a prank.

This might have all ready been said, didn't read all the post. Doesn't all the schools in Allen have a police officer on duty during school hours?

Brewer, this debate is kind of your baby, but you have been MIA in the thread for a while. What are your thought on DTF's comments that this is a waste because it won't help?

My concern regarding elementary security is the portable buildings. I understand the buzzer & locked front doors, but what about the children in the portables?

I feel AISD needs to engage in a serious discussion about the elementary set up. The security alone can be solved by redesigning each cluster system. The elementary schools that need portables can be converted to 5/6 intermediate schools. If all of the 5/6 kids within each cluster only attend one campus - it would be about the size of a single elementary school. One 5/6 campus centrally located in each cluster. it could even be the smaller land locked schools that rely on portables. there would be younger kid transportation concerns from the converted campuses - but little kids ride the bus in Allen already.
I love Allen...but we are 30 years ago in our school structure.

They claim that the rezoning plan eliminates all portables. I think we will be back in them again in a few years at Boone, Lindsey, and Cheatham, however they predict not.

I'm wondering if our elementary school will still use them... we won't be affected by any rezoning for the upcoming school year.

Nothing he has to say concerns me in the least. I had to take him off ignore to even see what has posted recently. For whatever reason he is trying to goad me into a response. Keep waiting cupcake.
It appears that AISD has decided to add a layer of physical security and if it is managed well will be a better situation than we were in last month.
Until Sandy Hook I have not seen a case in which a school attacker had taken the time to make forced entry into a school. Keep in mind that the shooter there had argued with four people at the school the day before and he targeted them and killed the three that were on campus. His attack was not random.
I think that by locking AND managing the door the defense against a random shooter goes way up and in the case of a person that is determined to make entry the locked doors may buy the students a little time.
One way to make schools safer that is free would be to take down the "Gun Free Zone" signs and take school buildings off the list of places that CHL holders are not allowed to carry. CHL holders have had an FBI background and are a pretty responsible group. Just the idea that an armed visitor might be in a school might be enough to dissuade a shooter. We have already seen what kind of regard killers have for signs and the law in general.
I probably won't be around much anymore. It was suggested by a couple of mothers that my children go to school with that I use this board to spread the word about the lack of physical security at the schools several years ago. My ideas were never widely recieved but at least a couple of you were moved to make calls and send e-mails and for that I thank you.

Thanks for responding. I had no idea you and DTF had history. I agree with your above points.

Are there portables at Bolin? I haven't seen them, but I've only been there a couple times for kids sports.

Not sure why they didn't try to eliminate the portables at Bolin during the rezoning process.
They did say that the southeast portion of Allen is declining in number of elementary age kids, so maybe they feel that the portables will naturally become unnecessary as the area continues to mature.
They also said that the east part of Allen was going to suffer from underutilization in the not so distant future so schools over there will start seeing less and less overcrowding. They will likely have to do additional rezonings just to funnel kids to these schools as their population matures.
