I've been meaning to post this for a while. My son attends Primrose East. At about age 2 1/2 the Allen Fire Department visited. He excitedly told me all about it that night. Every morning for weeks when he arrived at school the first thing he would do was look out the side window because, "that's where the fire truck was."

That's all well and good but what impressed me was months later. I was fixing lunch during the middle of the day and had a small fire (flimsy tortilla touching the element in a toaster oven). When I was telling my son of the event later that night his first question was, "did you find the closest exit?"

Wow! I knew he enjoyed the fire fighters but the life-saving information they had given him had really stuck with him! Who knows how many lives they save without even knowing it just by taking the time to speak with children? Thanks guys. You are tax money well spent!

Outstanding! It's great they engaged his young mind and he remembered the safety steps, kudos to him and AFD! :)

The brains of toddlers are like a sponge. But still it is amazing that he would remember something like that especially months after the visit from the fire department. Maybe he has hopes of being a fire fighter when he grows up.

Allen FD was also riding around on bikes at Allen USA looking out for people who may have gotten too hot. They do an awesome job!

That is adorable that he asked you that but wonderful that he remembered that important information! Kudos to Allen's Fire Department!

The past few decades have seen a great effort in teaching the little ones the desired safety behaviors. One program I adapted to work for early elementary classes produced several examples of kids recalling the material later. Hope they really never needed it but their teacher said they would still talk about the lesson.

And all together, we can help by continuing to do our EDITH drills at home and plan the Meeting place.

And did ya hear Allen PD and fire got "honored" with their own Hot Wheels cars? Should be in stores in a couple months or something. I didn't listen close enough to the news cast but do a search for Allen hot wheels on the channel 11 web site and you'll get the story.

It also was in the Allen paper on the front page. I think that is great! My son had tons of hot wheels when he was little. I'll have to try to get him one.

Glad y'all mentioned it, as I did not know. Many agencies are featured this way by the different toy/collectibles companies. I'll want these to add to my stash.
