I'm getting ready to switch to a new computer and wonder how to best get my digital photos off this old computer and onto the new one (or just keep them in case I want to use a photo in the future). What method do you use for storing your digital photos - CDs, flash drives, or some other way I don't know about?
I know I should have been backing up my digital photos all along but I haven't (bad me, I know).
Any and all useful advice will be appreciated!

I hope someone answers your question. You can count me into the group of no back ups also.

I am paranoid about losing my pictures and important files, so I use 2 methods of backup. One is CDs. I also have a 2nd hard drive in my computer where I put the things I don't want to lose. I have that stuff on both my main hard drive and the extra hard drive. That way, if either one of them goes out, I still have the stuff I need, plus the CDs in case both hard drives get zapped.

I upload my photos to Snapfish. They have unlimited storage.

Jogo, you have a variety of options:
1). You can buy an external hard drive USB case and just pop your old HD into it, then connect it to your new PC via a USB cable.
2). You can buy an external USB hard drive and copy the photos from your old PC to it, then connect it to your new PC simply by moving one end of the the USB cable from your old PC to your new one.
3). Upload your photos to a photo service. Depending on the service, their may be a cost involved, storage limits, you may not be able to download all the images quickly, etc... Plus it would also depend on how fast your PC and internet connection are, and how many photos you have as to how long it takes to do that.
4). If you PC has a CD or DVD burner, burn the photos to CDs or DVDs. This may take awhile if you have a bunch of photos and you want to verify they all copied correctly before deleting the old data.
I suggest option #1, then use the old hard drive in it's new USB enclosure to backup the photos that you put on your new PC. A USB HD enclosure is about $15 new.
If you want to buy a new external HD, you can pick up a 1 TB (terabyte) external USB drive for about $100 on sale: http://www.frys.com/product/5613901?site= sr:SEARCH...
Whatever you decide to do, I recommend backing up your photos and data to another HD.

If you have both computers up and running at the same time and you have a network connection you can just copy them by making the directory on the old computer shared.
For ongoing backup we just use a USB drive. They are pretty cheap these days.
