I hurt my back last week - I'm better this week - but was in an awful lot of pain by Saturday, so asked my husband to take me to the ER. It was a pulled tendon, but I needed some pain meds since Advil wasn't doing anything for me. Anyway, youngest son (11) decided to tag along since he wanted to stop at Wendy's to get a burger then stop at Target to get some Nerf gun bullets. I wanted him to stay home with his older brothers, but he insisted on going. Anyway, we didn't stop at either of those places on our way to Presby. Allen ER. There was a long wait in the exam room until I finally got to see the doctor. While we were waiting, my son started complaining about being hungry so my husband bought him a candy bar from the vending machine to tide him over. Then he started saying he was hungry again and asked to go get something to eat because I was taking too long. Then he stated, "It's all your fault! Dad was going to take me to Wendy's and then to Target some I can get some Nerf bullets and you had to come along to go to the hospital!" He had a devilish twinkle in his eye when he said this. My husband and I started to laugh - even with my sore back. That is when my husband called my mother and asked her to come get him so he could get something to eat. I spent the weekend in bed with vicodin (sp?) and muscle relaxers.

I hope you are better by now and this won't be a lingering pain like so many other people have.
Your son sounds exactly like my daughter! She can twist and contort things until she almost has you believing you are in the wrong. She's nineteen now so we have dealt with this for years and it is still on-going. We have since learned a few of her strategies so at times her whole "guilt-giving" process backfires and we all get the biggest laugh out of it.
This will be a story for you and your husband to remember once your son has kids of his own. My dad always said, "You pay for your raisin' by raisin' your own". I have thought alot about my dad since having kids!!!!!

The pain has gone away, but I still have to go to my orthopedic doctor to have him advise me on what to do about degenerative discs and arthritis in my back - something they found when they did the x-rays that I had no clue about. I know quite a few people with degenerative disc, so know it is not uncommon.
Yes, this will be one of those stories we will remind him about when he is older.

I pray you don't have to have back surgery. My sister had it. Her pain was mainly due to years of golfing. My colorist had it also from a roller derby accident. Both surgeries were different but the recuperation took an extremely long time. Both are fine now. Let's hope physical therapy and other means will get you healthy again.

No, this isn't something that needs surgery - just told to continue taking calcium with D supplement and exercising - which I'm doing already.

LOL how funny. I broke my ankle in 3 places a couple of weeks ago and on our way to the same E.R. my 5 year old asked for ice cream. She did not get it and is tired of being "locked up in the HOUSE", so am I!!!!!!!

I hope your ankle heals quickly. Sometimes kids just don't always understand that they don't always come first.

I'm thinking a 5 year old actually has no understanding of a broken bone.

My back is fine. I went to my orthopedic doctor yesterday and he said the degenerative disc problem is VERY MINOR and showed me the small specks of arthritis on the x-rays. He basically told me that it is part of aging and for my age everything is normal. I think the ER doctor made it sound worse than it was - or maybe it sounded that way because they had already given me a hydrocodone . . .

So glad to hear that I hear back pain is horrible to deal with. I am sure that you will be back to your gardening in no time.
Hydrocodone will have you saying and hearing some things lol.

I stopped taking all the meds a week ago last Tuesday. All that stuff just makes me sleep.
