Innnocent Bath-Time Photos Get Kids Taken Away From Parents
Today's moment-of-pause has been brought to you by Wal-Mart and the city of Peoria, Az. Apparently, some photo-clerk vigilante, diligently on the lookout for child pornography, saw photos of kids during bath time and decided to call the cops, according to a story on Good Morning America.
Next thing the parents of these kids knew, the children were removed from their home. For an entire month. Mom got suspended from her job for a year and both -- Anthony and Lisa Demaree -- were added to a list of sex offenders. The judge in the case said the pix were harmless.
"I don't understand it at all," Anthony Demaree told GMA, with his wife by his side. "Ninety, 95 percent of the families out there in America have these exact same photos."
Now they've got another shot to take. This time it's directed at Wal-Mart and their hometown.
Video of parents talking about ordeal and their lawsuit is on the web page.

Something really doesn't add up here. If the judge in the case said the pictures were harmless then how did they end up on the sex offenders list?

I think certain things automatically happen based on the way a law reads, and unfortunately they can't always be immediately reversed by the judge who hears the case. Different agencies, different courts are put in place to police different rules- isn't bureaucracy great?

When my Daughter was 6 months old in 1980, I took her to Kinder photo in Town East Mall and they took naked pictures of her in a little bath tub with a wash cloth on her head then, got pics in a fancy dress. They thought nothing of it and took pictures of naked babies on their tummies on a rug and so on. These were photographers that specialized in infants and children. I guess there so many pedophiles in the world now that even innocent cute pictures will get parents thrown in jail.

I have a digital camera. I print my own naked bath time kid pictures : )
Kidding aside, people just don't know what to do anymore. They blow things way out of proportion. If the whole roll of film was naked parts of kids, sure, but if they brought in 3 rolls of film, and only 2 pictures were of their kid in the tub with a toy and bubbles, please, leave it be.

The mom was out of work for a long time it said - I wonder if they did a plea bargain instead of going to trial? If found not-guilty, can't imagine any "list" repercussions, but if they pled out, well...
