The fountains are designed to be played in unless during one of the fountain shows.

There will be a children's play are at the Village at Fairview. Inside of The Purple Cow there is a "Village Life" magazine that talks about both the Fairview and Allen sites.

It states that there will be The Village Beach in the Fairview side. It will have 4 sand Volleyball courts and a children play area with palm trees to provide shade.

Looks like "Starpower" has bailed out. The signage is gone and the store listing has been removed from the villageshopping.com website.

I just noticed that Cotton Patch is going to open up on the Allen side. That will save us some tolls...

Any rumors on us getting an Einstein Bros.?

Not yet, but I am darn close to applying for the franchise myself. Einsteins would be a great fit.

No need to pay tolls. You do know that there is a Cotton Patch up in McKinney at 380 don't you?

I went in to Dillard's around 11 today. Wow...it was a ghost town. Saw 20 or more employees, didn't see another customer.
We sittin' here, I'm supposed to be a franchise player....and we in here talkin' 'bout PRACTICE?

I know - we just always end up in Frisco. We are at Alma and Exchange, so it's about the same travel time factoring in the construction.

I think it would do well here. We have the one in Plano off ... is it Legacy? Anyway, that location is so small and gets pretty crowded if you try to haul a family in there. The one on Preston in Frisco is a better set-up, as is the one off 15th in Plano. If there were one in Allen, I know we would be there at least once a week.

There's one in McKinney at 75/380. No tolls going that way.

Allen,
I have seen the same thing. I bet when whole foods and container store open, not to mention old navy, there will be more casual traffic for all.

I agree but if VoF had a bookstore that would also generate casual traffic. Bookstores and movie theatres always help. However with the price point for Gold Class it'll be interesting to see how it does. I did notice that on the Gold Class website that out of their 6 locations including the one that will open in April in Austin; that the Fairview location will have the cheapest prices at $17 per ticket (if you consider that cheap).

Good to hear about "Cotton Patch". I love that place but have only been to the McKinney one once because I can't deal with the construction traffic around 380 & 75.

So you're saying it's very similar to a typical Dillard's?

Einstein Bros wants to be in high traffic areas for weekday mornings - I'm not saying they won't open up there, but the location would be quite a variation from what they have elsewhere. I've thought that the old DoubleDaves location would be the best place for them for quite some time now (or Dunkin).

I was at the Village at Fairview yesterday evening and noticed how extremely slow things are. It is dead as a doornail...granted that it was a weeknight. I imagine that it is painfully difficult to be some of the first retailers in that shopping center. It will be at least 6 months before there is any hope of seeing any significant traffic until many of the other store fronts are finished out, and the apartments/businesses are leased. I guess people don't like to shop in malls which looks empty. I would imagine that there are heavy incentives for the any retailers to open or sign leases in that shopping center. The Allen side is slowly filling up and beginning to look more like a shopping center, but it is still dead except for some of the restaurants.
I imagine that the economy has a lot to do with this, but I imagine that because the place is still new, and that it still looks like it is under construction that is the reason that the place looks dead. I also wonder if the style/format of the shopping center has anything to do with this. Stonebriar is always packed...do they still have too much influence/pull? A little hope is the fact that the outlet mall across the street always seems to be fairly busy.
I wish the shopping centers good luck...they are both well built, organized and attractive.

Careful, people don't like hearing stuff like that around here.

The Village is doing better than I expected, but there certainly are some headwinds. Watters Creek continues to struggle mightily from what I hear. Overall I think Allen did very well to get the development that it did - I'll take the retailers we have over shaky department stores (Dillards) and overpriced entertainment (Gold Class) any day.

I think Cabelas can only help fill the voids in the VofA. It is still way to early to get a read on VofF. Traffic will be generated by the Container Store next month, and Old Navy and Whole Foods late this summer. Hopefully that will help. I spoke with the owner of one of the current small businesses this weekend. He mentioned that he saw the list of the businesses that MGHerring is currently in negotiations with for VofF, and we would be impressed. I hope he is correct and it comes through.

I love everything that is out there so far, except for the movie theater...I will probably try it once on a date night with my wife, but I honestly don't see how it will make it...I may be reading it wrong, and what people actually want. But then again I never thought Porsche would ever build an SUV...
