My Ford Expedition got rear ended one Christmas eve. The rear bumper is severely bent and there is some damage to the rear door. The other person's insurance has already accepted liability. Does anyone have any recommendations on where to get this fixed? I have heard that the dealer is usually the best place to get this done. The person's insurance company called and suggested going to a place that was owned by the insurance company.

Thanks in advance!

Jason

I use the dealership. If they fail to do the job right you have an entire management structure to complain to. If Bubba's House O' Colour makes a mess of your car Bubba is not going to be swayed by anything less than a civil suit which you will pay for by missing work and endless hassle. If the other guy is paying or I'm paying it's the dealer for me. YMMV. B

Get a few quotes, the insurance company cannot dictate where the repair is made.

A couple of things to keep in mind.

1. Be sure you get a rental car for as long as it takes to get the job done right. It will not be done right the first time - guaranteed.
2. Check the color match, the fit and finish of all the repairs. The seems between the bumper and panels should be even and consistant.
3. Take the bumper off yourself and get pics of the internal damage to bumber inserts, vents and everything.
4. Make sure all non-visible parts are preplaced. Get underneath and get familiar with eveythign down there.
5. Make sure all parts are genuine factory parts.
6. Make sure all parts work properly - rear door, defrosters, any electronics, the spare tire release and retract. Paint should match flawlessly. Muffler shoudl be strait and unbent.
7. Ge them to pay for an alignmement.

I've used Herbs with decent results, but it took 4 tries for them to get it right.

Thank for the tips!

I got more severely smashed from the rear about 8 years ago. I then took it to the Ford body shop that was part of Leadership Ford on 75. They were great and did everything perfectly the first time. It looks like Leadership Ford turned into Troy Aikman Ford, and they now seem to have closed down completely. Bummer.

Most of the dealerships do not do their own body work and farm it out. Body and paint has become very specialized and enviernmental concerns have forced most dealerships to use outside firms. I would go to the shop directly.

The person who hit me has All State insurance. All State is is vigorously pushing "Sterling Autobody." Does anyone have any opinions with Sterling? They will apparently handle car rental and will give a lifetime warranty for the repair work. State Farm's list of recommendations includes Service King, Bob Tomes Ford, and David McDavid Ford, plus many others.

I've used Service King off of 75 in Plano several times and have been very happy with them.

When wanting to use a dealership I have used Bob Tomes Ford on a number of occasions (too many to be proud of!) and have always been very happy with the results. But I have also used Ed's Body Shop here in Allen and have also been very pleased.

We have used Sterling Auto Body several times for body repair and highly recommend them. We chose to use them over some of the other places which I had quotes from--not because we had to use them. They were very informative, helpful and timely in getting the repairs completed. We recently had a vehicle hit in Stillwater, OK where my daughter is at school and would have driven it all the way back here to have it fixed had it been drivable--that's how much we like them.

Don't forget to have the repair shop straighten out the exhaust system .... it surely got pushed around if you got rear-ended.

Well we're back at Bob Tomes's collison shop. My daughter was in an accident on Saturday. No one was hurt but the Escape has $5900 in damage. I hope answering your post didn't give us bad luck!!!
