One of my co-workers grandson is coming to visit him this weekend. They plan to go to the zoo but want alternate ideas for indoors in case the weather is rainy/cold. My kids are teens...any suggestions (other than Chuck E Cheese)?

We are going to the Irish festival in fair park this weekend with our two year old. We went last year and she loved, at 1yr, all the music and dancing. She also enjoyed the petting zoo. There is a lot of inside stuff, but obviously the walk from parking to the inside of the park is enough to get wet.
Good way to prepare for St Pattys day.
Another note, we park at the Parker station and ride the train to the fair park gate. This in itself is fun for our 2yr old. You change trains at Pearl, so this has wet potential too.

Down at Fair Park, the science museum has a good kids area. They might try that (esp if they take the suggestion of the Irish Festival). Maybe the Aquarium down there too.

Also the aquarium downtown Dallas is good. There is a parking lot right near there; also you could take the train down but would have to walk a ways....

Stonebriar Mall has a carousel in the food court that is fun if they want something inexpensive and close by.

Also, the great wolf lodge is fun to go roam around, but I thing you have to be a guest to use the indoor waterpark. Pretty amazing place for kids though, my two year old loves the animatronic story book tree. Long drive (near DFW airport), but free entertainment.

Another option, although not entirly indoors, is the stockyards. We took our daughter, and a visiting toddler there in November. They loved watching the cattle hearded through the streets (done twice a day I think) and seeing the cowboys whip their 20 foot long whips. There are plenty of places to duck out of a short rain, but if it is pouring this is not a good option.

Thomas the Train is debuting in Grapevine on Friday. I bought tickets on line. There are childrens activities before and after the 30 min. train ride.

I'll report back on how everyone liked it. A 3 yr old Thomas the Train fanatic should be a good barometer.

When my boys were young we went to two different Thomas the Tank Engine events. My oldest was obsessed to put it mildly, and it was a sheer delight for him and his two younger brothers.
Be sure to take your camera.

It amazes me how Mimi (me) always remembers the camera and the mother doesn't! She even has a new video camera and she never pulls it out or brings it for photo opps.
When my daughter had her back turned @ MDO one day, she turned around and saw the oldest had dropped his jeans to show everyone his Thomas the Train briefs!
Of course, she was mortified, being the Mimi I thought it was hilarious!

That is why we have Grandmas - to remember to take pictures. As moms we are too concerned of the behavior being displayed.
Cute story!
