Yes, it definitely looks great. They didn't waste any time getting into the war either, right into Guadalcanal. I do like how they gave a brief glimpse into what made this theater different from the European theater, when they showed the mutilated Marines. If you look closely, you'll see exactly what was done to them and that along with how the wounded Japanese soldier acted at Alligator Creek, shows why the Marines will act with equal barbarity moving forward.
Loved Chesty Puller's speech, he was a very direct and blunt man. :)

This is not going to be a charming series like BoB, no offense meant to that story but it can't be like BoB. For one, this is not about one single unit but three different Marines from a couple of different units. It's also based off of two different books by two of the main characters (Sledge and Leckie) rather than just the one book.
Another reason, is this is not going to be a similar story because the two theaters of operation were completely different. The European Theater was a brutal war (all war is) but the Pacific Theater was something entirely different, with an entirely different enemy. The PTO was savage, really, really savage fighting. The battle shown the other night was a good example, the Marines ended up losing 26 men where the Japanese ended up losing something like 2200. That sort of tenacity shows how fanatic the Japanese troops and leaders were.

Was in Okinawa in the early '60s. Forts and Bases all over the southern sector. That was an island in the war. Guessing it will have an episode.

Yes, Okinawa will be covered but the most covered battle will also be one of the least talked about in other movies, Peleliu. Where were you in Okinawa? I was up north at Schwab next to Henoko.

I know charm seems an odd word to use for a war mini-series but I was speaking more toward the story telling than the actual war theaters.

Yea, I knew what ya meant sorry. lol This won't have that charm because it's taking several stories and making them into one where BoB was based on one excellent book and made an excellent movie.
reading, you were down in Naha in the cushy area! :) We used to go to Kadena on weekends and enjoy the amenities the fly fly boys had, us jarheads had bupkus up north. lol

Kadena was SAC. Glad I wasn't stationed there. We
had 18 months of sheer bliss. (not).
When I first got there we had F102's then the Gulf of Tonkin(64) mushroomed the 'Nam war'. Sent F4C's from Mcdill TDY and changed squadrons every three or four months.
Also had C130's. In addition there were Navy/Maine attachments at Naha.
Remember the big brown shuttle buses that transported us everywhere?

I was there in the 80's but I don't remember what color the buses were to be honest. Spent a lot more time in Kinville outside of Camp Hansen than down south though, that place was wall to wall bars. lol "You buy me drinky"? lol
