A friend of mine gave me some starter for Amish Friendship Bread. It is a sourdough type of stuff that I have to add ingredients to every 5 days and on day ten, use a portion of it to make something, then split the remaining starter between four bags and give them to friends with a copy of the instructions/recipe or use it for a recipe. I'm wondering if I will keep up with this and also wondering if anyone else has kept up with the whole process of keeping this stuff going. What kinds of baked goodies do you use it for? I would like to use it to make pancakes.

We did it for a long time one year - my sons LOVED the cinnamon bread it made but alas we finally stopped doing it and then didn't have any more of the starter so we haven't had it in awhile. If you decide to keep it going and need someone to pass one of your 4 bags on to keep me in mind. =)

I did this briefly, years ago. The products were good, but then I realized that with all the other rich ingredients the recipes all called for, it would be just as easy to make great food with those ingredients and not go through the feeding and dividing hassle. Maybe I'm just lazy.

That is what I'm afraid will happen to me with trying to keep up with it.

That's what happened with me, I couldn't keep up with the 10 day process. Good stuff if you're able to keep up though!

I did this years ago with my neighbor (we kept switching out the starter from her house to mine). After a few months, it got to be too much trouble though and we gave up - plus our families were getting tired of the limited recipes we were using.
