Here comes the warmer...hotter weather! Just a note about maintenance on our A/C's in our vehicles: The most common need I see comming into the shop is low cooling due to a low freon charge. Most vehicles will seep a little of its freon out over time. Since govt. freon laws changed in 1994, we have the new 134A freon instead of the R12. This new freon is less forgiving as only four ounces low can cause your system not to cool at all. However if your system is cooling I don't recommend "a checkup"! If it's cooling...let it be. Simply attaching to the service ports alone can disturb the seal and create a new leak for you to deal with.
Of course you always want to make sure your a/c belt is strong enough for another season, and there are not leaves or derbis in front of the condenser (behind the front grill) blocking air flow. Speaking of air-flow, one very important new developement we have on the newer cars today (mostly 1999 and newer models) is the "cabin filter." These are most commonly located in the dash; pass. above passengers feet area. A dirty, plugged cabin filter will cause the a/c system components to work much harder, efficency reduced, just giving you more beads of sweat on a hot day! ....stay cool!

Thanks for the reminder. My old '97 CR-V runs great but is definitely due for some A/C maintenance. I may cheat on our Richardson mechanic (your old buddy, Steve) and come by your place instead.
Crazy doesn't even begin to cover it.
Will work for shoes! |
