My 3 yr old son is currently enrolling in Primrose 2 days a week. Since he started, he has been sick every month. I'm thinking of switching to other programs where he will get the same educational experience but not getting sick so often. MDO sounds like a great program (2 or 3 days a week). My main concern is that are children who are enrolled in MDO get less sick/ear infection than regular daycare? I know kids need to get sick in order to build up their immune system, but every month is way too many for us to handle. We also have an 18 month old at home who also gets sick when his older brother is sick. I would like to minimize that by enrolling him MDO. Do you think the chance of him getting sick is less in MDO program? I would love to hear your thoughts.

Intuitively I would guess that kids would get sick less from MDO purely from the fact that there are less hours of exposure to other kids. There would also be less likelihood of parents sending their kids to school sick as most of the parents in MDO programs wouldn't have to miss a day of work if their kids stayed home.
My kids are way past that age but back when I was looking into it the MDO programs were significantly less expensive. Most of the daycares wanted to charge for full time on the theory that my child would be taking a spot they could sell to a full time student. For me that idea of preschool wasn't to have them learning letters and colors and shapes. I wanted them to play in a more structured environment. I would suggest you look into Rainbow Days at St. Jude. I believe they still have openings and it is an excellent program.

I have to agree that MDO's seem to be a lot less expensive than full time programs. I'm currently trying to find a program for my daughter who will be 18 mo in the fall. My son, who is almost 4, went to Apple Creek this year and loved it. He's going to the Allen ISD preschoool next year because it was a longer amount of time, for the same amount of money, plus I think it'll better prepare him for the routine of kindergarten.
Personally, I've been looking for a secular program and all the MDO's seem to be run within churchs - and many start at 2 years old. However, my daughter loves to be with other children and I work from home, so I'd really love to get her into something part-time while her brother's in school. Good luck in your search!
ETA: I completely forgot to address your question of illness. My son was in full time care until my daughter was born and I didn't notice any diffence in his level of illness. I think some kids may be more prone to things like that though. I'd have to agree that MDO vs. full time care would help reduce the risk - maybe it's a question for your pedi...

My now 2 yr old son is in a GREAT montessori school 3 days/wk 8:30-2:30. It is right around the corner from Apple Creek on Hedgecoxe. I started him in school at 22 mos and he had been in in-home care since he was 3 months old.
He loves it, has a great time, is learning so much- it is great for our family. If you would like their info, let me know.
