My GE side by side refrigerator with ice and water in the door quit making ice. There was an ice jam that I unclogged, but it is still not working. It is only five years old. Any advice?

Make sure that the ice maker shut off lever (above the ice bin) is on (pushed down where it touches the ice when full), in that position, it should be on.

Another thing that can go out is the solenoid valve. Our fridge has one that regulates water & ice. The ice side on ours is kaput!

Thanks for your input. My old refrigerator had an ice maker like that. This one is different. It has kind of like an auger type gear that drops the ice. That's the best way I can describe it. I wish I could figure something out. It sure is a pain to buy bagged ice constantly.

That would be my luck. Sounds expensive! Thanks for your input.

We have different "models" but the same ice maker I think. Is there ice in the tray? If there is, pull the ice bucket out and make VERY sure there is not any ice/frost in the way of the bucket sitting flat in it's home. There is a little metal gear that sticks up and I have had to pour a little warm tap water on mine to melt a little ice there. If the bucket does not sit flat it can cause the icemaker to sense that the bucket is not there and it won't dump. If the maker is bad (they usually leak first) then Rodenbaughs sells the replacement for mine for around $80. Sears wanted $250 to put it in and I had it in and out in 10 min. Terrible design.
A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan executed next week.

Similar model and exact same issue. Ge Guy was here for dishwasher ($190, to replace a wire nut! Not that u asked). Had him look @ ice maker, there was a spring half on, half off. Ice maker thought it was full. 3 second fix. Hope that. Helps!

We bought a new ice maker when ours went bad from Adam The Answer Man located on Plano Rd. just a little south of Forest Lane.

Give them a call with the model of the refrigerator and they will more than likely have a replacement or can order one for you for around $100. It is fairly easy to replace yourself.

As Brewer stated, Rodenbaughs has them, will probably be less, supports a local business and is a much closer drive. We have bought parts there for years, from water filters for our refrigerator to a new belt for our dryer and a solenoid for our icemaker.

Yes, it is supporting a local business and I do agree with that. The only reason I suggest the other place is because the couple times I have gone to Rodenbaugh's, the part had to be ordered and there was a wait. The times I have gone to Adam the Answer Man, they had the part in stock, so it was worth the drive for me to get the part sooner.
