The world famous Light Crust Doughboys are on the air at the Allen Public Library, 7 pm, Thursday, June 10, 300 N. Allen Dr. Enjoy some of your favorite Texas swing numbers as well as hear some new songs. Sponsored by Bach to Books, with generous assistance from Texas Commission on the Arts, this event is free and no reservations are required. The Dallas Morning News declares, “The Light Crust Doughboys are to western swing what Bill Monroe is to bluegrass. Founded in 1931 by Bob Wills, Milton Brown and W Lee O’Daniel, the Light Crust Doughboys is the longest-running country band in the world. In 1935, Smoky Montgomery joined the band and provided distinctive Dixieland jazz-inflected banjo sounds. Smokey continued to play live shows with the band until his passing in 2001. One of Smokey’s last performances was in Allen at the John and Georgie Green farm.
