My Trend Micro has expired. Should I renew it or is there something out there that's better?

I think McAfee is the best, we just renewed for 49 dollars, that can be loaded on three computers for one year.

I have Microsoft Security Essentials on all of my computers and it works great! I have not had an infection or spy-ware since.

The price is right too....FREE!

I would never pay for antivirus software, there are many out there that are free. I recommend taking a look at AVG Free Edition or Panda Cloud Antivirus.

Free ones are good, but if you have a problem, there is no guarantee. McAfee will correct any problems.

I use to use AVG but it got real annoying with them sticking their advertisement on emails and the constant harassment to upgrade to their pro version that does cost money. That's the same reason I finally dumped Ad-Aware (from lavasoft). Microsoft Essentials takes care of the ad stuff as well.

What do you mean "correct any problems"?

If there is a virus that gets through (new ones practically every day), they will get online with you to correct the problem. If need be, they can take control of your computer and resolve issues (with your permission) and you can watch as they do so.

there are new viruses daily, the difference between MacAfee, Norton and other paid vendors updating thier virus definitions and the free ones is neglegable (sometimes the free ones are faster). What matters is how often you choose to download update virus definitions. It should be done at least twice daily and you should do full system scans at least once daily.

Another option, which I use and love myself is Avast! Anti-Virus. A word of warning though, if you have your speakers on, the software will occassionally 'talk' to you. :) When it updates, it tells you it's updated the virus database. If you turn the sound option off, it won't bother you but it can be a tad disconcerting the first time it happens if you're in another room. You'll wonder why you hear this loud, male voice speaking in another room. lol

Don't forget to also add a good spyware scanner, like Malwarebytes.

Consider Norton 360 4.0 on eBay. You can usually get a 3 pc license for a quarter retail and it does PC tune up, backups, malware and virus detection. Never had a single problem and backups are so easy.
