Keep Kids Safe Workshop - Feb. 17
A Keep Kids Safe Workshop for parents and their children is set for Thursday, Feb. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Lowery Freshmen Center, 301 E. Main St., in Allen.
The event, sponsored by Allen ISD, will feature booths, a speaker and entertainment focusing on keeping children safe from a variety of issues they may face from bullying to gun safety.
Sgt. Chris Meehan with the Collin County Sheriff's Department Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force will speak at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria. At the same time, youngsters will be entertained in the gym by The Morris Brothers, a pair of nerdy “superheroes” on a mission to save the world and help kids stop bullying. The show is intended for students in grades kindergarten through fifth.
Booths open at 6 p.m. and include:
Websafety – online monitoring software for parents
Allen Police Department – gun safety
Allen Fire Department – fire safety
Drug Test Your Teen – drug testing kits
Cell phone carriers – AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint, phone and text messaging monitoring
North Texas Youth Connection – free counseling for youths 0-17 and their families
The Turning Point – healthy relationships
Collin County Sheriff's Department – safety information
Hope's Door – information about dating violence
