I have a 10-year-old glass top range that has a burner that doesn't work properly. Frequently the burner will continue to heat eventhough I have turned it down to the lowest setting. When this happens, I have to turn the burner off and then back on to the setting I want. Then it will requlate itself at that setting.

I called Adam the Answerman and they said it was probably the burner switch. They said we should be able to replace it ourselves, but I'm not sure about that. Does anyone have experience with replacing this switch?

It is called a potentiometer which is basically a variable "switch" that allows differing amounts of electricity into the circuit. A volume knob is a pot too. I have replaced many in everything from electric guitars to radio sets. It should be two wires and a nut if its like any that I have dealt with.
