Where can I find out who has filed to run in the Allen City elections this May? I believe the Mayor and Place 2 are up this year.

Sorry but this post has been removed as it is in violation of the forum rules.

The forum rules which state in part,” Common sense, basic etiquette should guide your online conduct. Debate and disagreement are normal and acceptable as long as it doesn't become discourteous. You may dispute opinions and facts, but do so with facts and information that focuses on the issue and not on the person. Personal attacks are not allowed and they are defined as comments that reflect upon a person instead of their opinion. Flames and insulting criticism are not allowed.”

Discussions about upcoming elections and the candidates are always welcome however, you should not attack the honesty of anyone without facts and information and this applies whether it is election time or not. Claims of this nature border on legal accusations and goes beyond "insulting criticism" which is not allow.

While we are all entitled to our personal opinions the Allen Talk forum rules do address the limitations of some freedom of speech issues. These limitations are not unusual as similar rules can be found at workplaces, schools, courtrooms and probably in your own home. It was just an update on the mayor race and who is running.

Blake Beidleman is running against Terrell.

Just fyi, if your ever going to become a politician and run for office, make sure you start prepping for it early in life with your actions and your words. Some things that you never want known usually have a tendency to come out in the open when your running for office.

And I can guarantee you, things will come out in the open for some of these candidates.

Yea, I doubt Thomas Jefferson could have ever been a city councilman of Allen, much less mayor.

I'll take an open, honest candidate that takes a position or even has a few dings on their record over a wordsmith that has never been a leader. Too many politicians are good with the "offend nobody" response or line rather than have true leadership abilities.

Does anyone know if Blake is going to hold an open question and answer session with the community before elections? Please tell me if he is, I have alot of questions that I would like answered publicly. I think the questions and answers would certainly help the public to get to know this character a little better and shed some light on who they should be voting for.

Agree...I'd definitely support someone who has a track record of leadership in the community and willing to challenge the status quo. Blake would be my choice on both fronts...

I fail to see how being president of ASA football and owning a cigar store qualifies as having leadership abilities that would qualify anyone to be Mayor of Allen. I’m sure he is a very likable guy, but having the knowledge and insight of years of experience to lead Allen, he’s not my choice.

And don't say it's time for a change. Voting for change just for the sake of change is a horrible reason to vote for anyone.

I've only been here a couple years, but have found the leadership at the City of Allen to be top notch.

Is there something specific that has happened to make anyone feel it is time for a change. I'll be honest, I like the direction Allen is heading.

Looking at the "status quo" as Allen sits now, where specifically is the need for change? Exactly what has the mayor individually done that should have been done differently? Where is Allen lacking where having a different mayor would have changed things? As the mayor recently stated, "being mayor is not an entry level position".

It was said in the paper that the mayoral office is not one of entry level. For me, that begs the question is it simply a seat of incumbency?
Keep looking up because thats where it all is

I'm pretty sure that is not what they meant. However, an incumbent is not a bad thing when they have done an excellent job.

My point was all the members of council, including the mayor, haved served on other city boards and commissions and many of them have gone through the Leadership Allen program. The mayor has also, and may still, served on the North Texas Regional Transportation Council and probably others over the years. All tie together with creating the experience to be mayor or a council member.

Opps, the guy running for council owns the cigar shop, not the mayor candidate.

From the Community News forum. ChrisH was wondering if there was going to be a open question forum. Well, here ya go.

Come to our Mayoral Candidate Forum and hear the Mayor of Allen, Stephen Terrell, and his opponent, Blake Beidleman: Allen Area Patriots Meeting; April 14th; 7:00–8:30 pm; New Heritage Church, 8 Prestige Circle, Suite 122 (off Bethany, east of Central).

Take this opportunity to meet Allen's mayoral candidates, Mayor Terrell and Blake Beidleman, and hear them share their views on governing the city of Allen. They will each speak for 10 minutes, and then they will respond to questions from the audience. Don't miss this opportunity! We look forward to seeing you for this special event.

Please vote on election day, May 14th or during early voting, May 2nd through May 10th.

Please visit the Allen Area Patriots website at http://www.allenareapatriots.org to learn more.

The more I think about it, the more I may want to just be quiet just in case the worst happens. I have seen retribution and retaliation towards adults and kids from a certain person and I have a 13 year old who plans to play football for AHS. Pulled him out of ASA for a certain reason to play select and I dont want my actions to come back and hurt him in the future.

What I would like to hear from all candidates is how they plan on fighting the drug problem we seem to have in our school system.

I don't have any specific stats but from what I'm hearing from other parents who have kids in middle school and up, there's definitely a prescription drug problem.
